Buy 4 stringer if you are looking for wild one.
I have heard only one wild 5 stringer. And that piece has been bought on some sale in US... Unbeliveable bass and OK price.
 
I had two stingrays and a sterling here.
They were nice but too agressive in the mids and really can't compete with the Dolphin or japanese Fender Jazz. Growlier, punchier, more articulate and more responsive, the both of them.

No more Musicman adventures for me.
 
I very much like the slap sound of a stingray. Like louis johnson very mid/high sound indeed.
 
I've yet to try a Bongo. They look... weird, but then again so does my Thumb BO. I like weird basses. I've heard they're phenomenal to play and have a super versatile and modern sound... any experiences?

On the other hand, I do want to get a 5-string classic bass with active electronics...

My friend had 4 string Bongo. Tonally, Bongo is perfect "classic bass with active electronics". I didn't like the looks (although BMW designed Bongo) and didn't like the "Ibanez feel" of that modern Music Man.
 
but the bongo sounds incedibly good, i tried one at a bassforum meeting in the netherlands
 
Speaking of Bongos, this was my Tangerine Pearl 4HH.

I traded it for a 6H and I have to say I like how the 6H sounds a lot better. The bridge pickup in the HH is in the wrong position, and I think the small body with the 24 fret cutaway just needs a bit more meat, and the larger amount of wood in the 6 provides it. Needless to say, the trade partner hated the guts of out of the 6 :)

BTW, why is it that this particular vbulletin installation is configured to cut off pictures in posts, not scale them like every other installation. That option is there only for show, you aren't supposed to use it :)
