Yes!

Here are a few photos from last night's detail. Wiped the dust off, waxed the body and neck, and used lemon oil on the fingerboard. This thing has barely been played. I think it just sat in the open for years. The fingerboard is flawless. The JAN II is in-tact. Trussrod cover is mint. LED's work and are bright. Pot detents are very solid. Hardware is all perfect.

It has flats, but I'll get some roundwounds for it. Jack played SIT strings on his, so that's what I'll buy. Also considering a JAN I Brass.

Ohhh myyyyy gaaaawd. Congrats Chris!! What a minty beauty.

Jack's '06 that I won in a contest, had SIT nickel wounds on em. They were really tearing up the FB, so I went with flatwounds. I did of course keep his old strings, as he played all of his Cream hits with em....so I couldn't just toss those in the trash ;)

Well, I've played this '02 Thumb NT4 for awhile now, and absolutely love the playability of this particular bass...

That said, I'd like to invest in/change out the MEC Pre/PUs to Bartolini passive pu's/18v 2-band, with a passive option. Does anyone know if this setup will fit cleanly in the cavity box? I'm so used to having 18v systems in my other basses, and the current MEC 9v pre lacks headroom for my tastes...

I wasn't dying to go 2-band, but I didn't see a 3-band configuration that retained a passive option (without adding more controls) on the Bart website? This bass has a killer passive tone, which I don't want to be without. This will be my first adventure in changing electronics/pu's, so any advice is welcomed...:-)

Should be fine. I run 18v in my thumb 6 and in my thumb 5 when I had it. This is a cavity on my Thumb 6. Its tight but I get two batteries in there no problem. One goes in the little space above the volume knob and the other lays flat on top of the pre amp box. I also made room for two switch's for the Delano quad coils.

That's awesome! Will you post a photo of that bass?

This bass is awesome, but needs roundwounds. Flats are just not my style at all!

I hear ya on the flatwounds. Not my favorite, but I just didn't want that slab of ebony (please...no ebony trunk pics, Schlo) getting damaged anymore. The grooves that are there now, were made by the man himself :) I'd LOVE to one day own a JB LTD like yours...or the first ones with the peace sign in the signature.

Kinda cool...looks like it was either ordered by Jack or at least for him, as the info card says "Jack Bruce fretless 4", although it's just a "standard" NT4 FL ;)

Countless friends told me to sell it. They had never heard of Warwick and I had never played a fretless. Selling it never crossed my mind. I knew I wanted to grow old n' grey with her as soon as I saw her. "Work of art" was the first thing I said when I opened the case. Followed closely by, "holy fucking shit".


But...ummm...what were you saying about 10k??

Anything Jack Bruce personally owned and played is worth a lot more than anything Ryan's selling. As awesome is Ryan is, Jack has been an icon for 50 years. Everyone in the world knows who he is.
 
I'd still love to know if his main Thumb was ever successfully auctioned. I hope HPW got it.



His original prototype Thumb apparently did actually sell for 10k, 5 years ago. Kinda surprised it didn't go for more with those signatures on it.

Well....ladies and gents.

This man made a excellent piece of plastic in 3d that actually works!
Note that I already have lightweight tuners, which made some difference in balance.




The piece is actually 0.5 cm smaller then the original, because that part broke of when i tried to screw a screw in, had to drill the hole out a little bit. Finding the right screw took some time.

The balance change of the thumb is not huge, but. When u hang the bass in the position you like, it doesn't want to correct itself as bad as she used too. My personal battle was playing comfortably in the higher register (tapping) and then switch to the fingering again. That problem is solved!

To everyone, this can can do it for you!

Remember, its still a thumb, a thumb has its own will ;)

Cool, good to see it worked!
Did you have any trouble finding a screw long enough?
Did the radius match up ok?
I was planning on putting a piece of felt between it & the bass, also printing it in black..
