=The Warwick Thumb Club=

The one in the left is mine. :) Its siblings belongs to the talented @Mr.Demeter

Those came with MEC pups. Definitely nothing wrong with restoring her to factory defaults. If it were mine (and I wish it was) I would.

I'm starting to work on it.

If you're in the states, contact Jon at the Nashville Warwick showroom. It'll most likely be your best price for those. And also wax and other accessories are cheapest through Nashville.

Thanks for the pointer. I'll give Jon a call later this morning.

Oh...and definitely post some pics! Lots and lots of nice pics :) Not too many of those original JB'S come around these parts.

Here are two:

Basslines were used by us as standard as some point, not sure about J's. If you like them I will leave them like this, They really look cool!

Thanks, Florin.

I'll play it with the Basslines for a while to see how I like them.

I'll probably order a pair of the MECs too, just to have for originality.

The bass is heavier than I'm used to, but it feels very solid. It plays beautifully. Acoustically it sounds quite wonderful.

It has always had Pyramid Gold flatwounds on it. As a result, the ebony fretboard is still in beautiful condition - no wear at all.

I'll plug it into an amp for the first time later today.

I notice that the later Thumbs have a stacked volume/balance control, while mine has a simple volume control. When did that start?

When Warwick introduced 3 band EQ, I think mid 90's

I thought that this 1990 JB Signature bass has a 3-band EQ. I was wrong. The center control is balance between the two pickups.

The volume control has a pull position. Down against the body it appears to be active. Up seems to be passive.

In the active mode, the two tone controls work; in passive they do not.

I plugged it into a good amp and it sounded very fine except that it was picking up some radio stations.

I clipped a jumper from one of the strings to the ground on the input jack - the noise disappeared!

It turned out that the grounding wire under the bridge base plate had compressed into the wood and wasn't making contact with the plate. It was an easy fix.

I like the LEDs. I'll likely leave them on whenever I'm playing. When they're off they really disappear, and the neck doesn't have standard side marker dots.

I wonder how long the three 9-Volt batteries will keep the LEDs lit? Anyone know?

From all accounts, MEC pups were indeed shipped with the '90 JB LTD's. But I should add that Jack's first prototype Thumb, had Seymour Duncan pups. This one was the famous bubinga fretboard version. '85.

There are very few pics online of the 1990 JB sig Thumb. Here is one from Sotheby's auction... It has MECs

Continuing on the Bruce theme....

Now just for shits and giggles....who can explain this one....? We've all seen this ad... and to this day it still confuses me a bit. Well, actually, a lot.

jack_bruce_ad_1.jpg

It's obviously promoting the 2002 Jack Bruce signature, as that is Jack from the early 2000's and Dana B. Goode is the supplier.... but here's where it gets a bit strange. And if someone has the answers...let me know!

The Thumb on the left is a bit of a mystery to me. The Thumb that Jack is playing, is obviously his well known '93 personal one, with that light blonde streak going toward the top horn. Recently sold at Sotheby's.

Back to the mystery Thumb on the left. It has a JAN2, black truss rod cover... and no inlay at the 26th fret area. That means it is for sure a 2002 Jack Bruce sig...right?? Well....not so sure.

And that's because of the peace sign in Jack's signature (which was only in the '90 sigs as far as I know). And also the truss rod cover doesn't have a tiny signature of Jack's (normal for the '02 sigs as far as I know).....and last but not least what trips me out about this JB sig Thumb the most, is there is no LED switch? Both the '90 and '02 JB sigs had LED's.

So if anyone can explain this Thumb...I'd love to hear about :)

One off 2002 JB??

I'm sorta leaning toward it's a photoshop job...and they put the 1990 mother of pearl sig w/peace sign, on a standard '02 fretless Thumb....just for this ad. That would explain the truss rod cover and also lack of LED switch.

Whatcha guys think?

Schlo? Florin? What say you!?

I'm guessing they weren't paying full attention to all the tiny details when setting up the photo shoot, and missed those items.

You mean the photo "shop" shoot.

And then a guy 15 years later with OCD...notices something is fishy!!

I WANT ANSWERS!!!!

:eek::rolleyes::p:D:)

sorry for yelling

Does anyone know how long the three 9 volt batteries will power the LEDs in my Jack Bruce fretless Thumb bass? I'd rather not have to install three new ones and run them down to find out.

Thanks man.....yeah, I haven't bought a real nice bass in close to 20 years, so I'm loving it!

Thanks again @Hoggles

Is that finish original? It looks like new for a 30 y/o bass.
