I liked the touch and feel of my Thumb NT5 a lot. But I just did not come not along with the NECK DIVE. (let the madness start again. ;))

Yeah it definitely needs a set up and I don't trust my knowledge to do it myself...anyone happen to know of someone that's good with wicks in the Dallas area?

Your knowledge would get a huge boost with a few YouTube videos on intonation and such. Don't rule out doing it yourself. Save some cash. Super simple to get a bass set up to near perfect intonation (perfect enough), even without using a strobe tuner, where good ones are near $700. Your trusty old Korg pocket tuner will get ya to where you need to be.

If you're interested... it would cost the price of a cheap lunch to get this essential tool for any bass player. As for feeler gauge replacements...I use business cards or a pick.

A good reset position for the saddles to start at, would be to move them to a more diagonal slant.

Then, check out some vids on setting up a bass. Super simple...and you'll never go anywhere for a basic setup again. Easy peasy! Definitely watch (and do) the ones about action and truss rod adjustment first. Here's one on Intonation from Wick, but there are a bunch of vids out there, that go into more detail. Just remember the golden rule on truss rods... don't ever force it.

I've watched the vids I'm just super scared of the truss lol simply cuz of the horror stories I've read on forums...but I definitly do want to be able to do it all myself

I hear ya. Adjusting the truss rod is sometimes a little stressful. You can definitely do everything besides adjusting that, with no worry at all of course. If the neck relief looks good, with just a little bit of up-bow, you should be golden...and you don't want to mess with the truss if ya don't have to anyways. If you want to add or decrease bow in the neck, keep in mind you can always do that to a certain extent, with different string gauges/tension. Do the adjustments on the nut and saddles/bridge for string height...then do the intonation. Bam...you're set. $6 vs $60+. Your call ;)

i miss my old thumb. The Nordstands and Darkglass Preamp was total madness. i modded that thing to hell.

:( but i know its in great hands.

yeah im gonna give it a shot, i appreciate it. I'm kind of curious about strings for it, but im sure there's tons of threads on that subject.
 
Loved my NT thumb too, just couldn't stand & play it for long.
If I had invented my horn extender back then I probably wouldn't have sold it!

That's the spirit! Nice! Hell, with the money saved, you could buy a brass JAN3 for it (which I highly recommend eventually) ;)

Speaking of that...since this is your first Wick. Don't get scammed buying Wick parts or accessories, from 3rd party sellers on the Bay or Reverb etc. Call the Warwick Nashville Showroom, (615) 730-6497, if you ever need anything. Including wax. You'll get the honest price of what it should be. Others will mark up the same thing 100-200% sometimes. Silliness.

Strings are definitely a personal preference. Keep in mind that since you don't want to touch the truss rod...check to see if your neck could use any adjustments. If it has too much relief for your liking... A light string set will give you less relief etc. Not enough relief...and put some strings on it that have a higher tension etc. Most string companies have tension charts you can look at.

Definitely putting a brass JAN3 on asap...knew warwick was selling parts direct but had no idea that you could order stuff in the US! awesome thank you so much man! appreciate it. also gonna try out their strings just cuz i tried two different pair and the B string didn't sit in the retainer proper and I dont wanna pinch the string or file it sooooo....ill see whats up.

dr long necks.

they sit really low on the bridge, you may need to increase the action a touch.

amazing sounding too.
 
took a swing at setting er up and even adjusted the truss...truss was way too forward. And setting the action and intonation wasn't that hard at all but for some reason the string height at the higher octaves is still really hight so...to the tech i go. New WW strings should be here today or tomorrow so we'll she how she plays when i get her back. Hopefully after a pro gives it a good set up I'm at least confident enough to do any adjustments in the future on my own. Thanks again for pushing me to try, def a learning experience!
 
Congrats on the Thumb purchase, BassandRobbers!

I will say that with the (I think 7) Thumb Bolt-Ons I've owned, each one needed to have the neck shimmed between it and the body to get the action low enough to be considered a "good" set-up with low action. Something to consider if the strings are still too high. It's very easy to do, if you decide to make that adjustment.
 
congrats on doing some of the work yourself. eventually you'll learn to love the zen feeling of guitar maintenance. Headphones in, steel wool, alan key, screwdrivers, lemon oil, truss rod tool....love it.

my mates drop off their guitars at my house so i can clean, restring and do set ups on them. i love it :)

While your at it @BassandBobbers have your tech file the bridge for the B. You will want to be able to play different strings (don't limit yourself to a few brands that fit), and a small file on the bridge will not hurt it at all......it is one of two recommendations by Warwick

I didn't like the "crimp" idea of my preferred strings, so I chose the file route.....

Nice bass BTW!
