What are some reasons all of you guys like the thumb bass so much as compared to other Warwick models? I like the thumb model alot as well, just like hearing other peoples thoughts on why they like this instrument so much. :D
 
There will always be differences from Warwick model to Warwick model (how much is largely driven by personal opinion, as there is strong Warwick personality presence among all Warwick basses). Nevertheless, I like Thumb basses because they exemplify not only the Warwick tone, but also the tremendous amount of innovation that was taking place back in the '80s. Coming out of a few decades where popular bass models were largely dominated by 3 companies over just a handful of models (which have remained largely unchanged even today), the Warwick Thumb bass looked like no other bass, sounded like no other bass, and was constructed like no other bass (outside of the Warwick family). Even today, it is so unique and fresh that it still stands out...the true definition of a classic.

A Thumb bass got that characteristic tone, that really stands out in a mix of instruments. When you listen to a song - you can tell that's a Thumb bass.
 
Thanks to jlew and Dom, I definitely share their point of views. I just would like to add the shape of its body which is also quite unique...

For me, the Thumb IS Warwick. It was the first truly original design that HPW came up with. We all know the story of the Streamer, being (for the most part) a near exact copy of the Spector NS-2, when it first came out. And we know the Nobby was based on the Steinberger L-Series. Not a lot of original thought went into those first two Warwick basses. Harsh, but true. Sure, some aspects of the Streamer & Nobby were original...but for the most part, they were copies.

For me, that is a big reason I love the Thumb so much. It's just such a unique design and the first bass from Warwick that made it stand out in the industry.

And full disclosure... as some of you may remember, I won my first Thumb in a Bass Player magazine contest (yes, pant's were shit in), so I was definitely biased toward the Thumb from the beginning :P

I am still searching to get back to the Thumb life...awaiting the right NT 5er to pop up.
 
I sent him a message, but I didn't see a price anywhere just the comment he made about thinking of selling as his is beautiful. I would prefer a wenge neck and would entertain a BO with wenge but ideally though it would be a NT 5er with wenge.
