I'm curious about Thumb NTs around 2000 used to come stock with an 18v preamp (requiring two 9v batteries)????
 
this one that i buy recently has 18v too...sound great but i didnt know that this was a personal upgrade...i read some forums that tells that some thumbs in the past come with this 18v....

I seem to recall thumbs coming in 18v at some point as well however the details are hazy. Forgive my ignorance but what are the advantages of wiring for 18 vs 9?
 
hi carvello ...what i read about this wiring is that u have more headroom...in some point more punch ...i tell u ..this one sounds wonderfulll ..

That's what I've read, but I bet it comes at a cost. I never used an 18v preamp but often wondered about battery life.

Battery life is no issue at all, they last a loong time (I typically replace mine a few times a year, more as a precaution than a necessity.)
 
I connected two 9V batts on my 2011 Thumb and it sounds fine. It's been more than 3 months and no sign of power shortage yet.
With a single batt, somehow it distorted even with small bass boost:(
Now its bass boost adds very nice PUNCH and contributes to the Thumb's unique sound.
I always set it +50%. Yeah.
 
Quick question:

Does anyone know what was the standard string spacing for Thumbs in '96?
 
Just-A-Nut III Brass

I am so happy with my new Just-A-Nut III Brass!!! I installed it myself and I think it makes a worth while difference, plus it looks so cool!!:D
