Every Just a Nut 2 broke?? Well that doesnt sound good at all. Hopefully this one will be in piece until I get the Just a Nut 3. Thanks for the heads up with the trussrod cover though!
 
It will definitely be fine. Even though one or both side posts break, there's enough tension from the strings to keep the nut from going anywhere. It's just annoying.

Of course, brass purists could shoot me down for this, but I would imagine you will find the only difference in tone between the brass and tedur nut is on open strings. Once you fret a note, the nut is taken out of the equation, so I would really recommend you do not buy the nut to expect great tonal differences. I upgraded because it makes the bass look sexy ;)
 
If there's no impact on tone I'd like a rubber nut then. Rubber makes the world go round see...

That's definitely true, I do like having those open strings sound beastly when hitting them. OH, and yes it does make the bass SEXY!!

Wait, you play Warwick and never owned a thumb? :-) There is no other bass that personal in this world like the thumb NT, except maybe the Pbass!
It was the only bass I ever owned that I couldn't touch the bass or amp or console EQ or compressor without ruining a PERFECT sound! Really, the best sound was plug in, everything flat, new strings, that's it!
It was the only bass that even my wife said it sounds great! You know, when you are asking your girl about your sound, and she says something nice but you can se in her eyes that she has no clue how your bass sounds like? Well, it is not the case with the thumb, it is SO, in your face, low and growly, like a punch in the stomach.
It can take a while to get used with the special sound and ergonomics, but after that an other bass sounds and feels dull :-)
 
Alright forgive me if I'm an idiot but here it goes:

I've been trying to pick this one up from a second hand website and after check, check, double and triple checking I found an 'abnormality' here.
The Thumb 2003 LTD is supposed to come with black hardware according to the website, and some google images also reflect this.
However, there are also models that come with chrome hardware, like the one I wish to acquire.

Sadly I don't have a serial number availible, and I didn't ask if he has the certificate. :confused:

Can someone tell me if this is a legit bass or not?

I think this bass is a "true" LTD. The flamed body, fretboard and headstock, the specific inlays... Also there are a lot of pics in the web showing the bass with chrome hardware. Last but not least there is a sign of Hans Peter Wilfer on it. I don´t think that somebody tries to sell such a special bass as a false LTD, faking the sign and the patch showing it´s number of the LTD-series. Because at first you have to find a bass with exactly the same Features like the limited edition. But of course: to get 100% sure about it just ask for the serial number.
 
I believe that what you see on the last photo actually IS the serial number: 3/111, which means that it is bass number 111 of the 2003 limited edition.

I've asked for the serial number, I think it should be on the top of the headstock?
I don't know exactly what year they stopped doing that, my '05 Corvette has it written on the back of the headstock anyways.

I'm not too sure about that last statement, I think it's the 3rd of the 111 made in and of the 2003 LTD edition, but I'm not an expert.

no eyvindwa is right #111 of ltd edition 2003
 
3/111 suggest # 3 out of 111 made. But according to warwick.de, 350 were made of the 2003 LTD. If "3" represents the year, it is highly redundant with the top line "LTD EDITION 2003". It would also conceal the total number made. Are all LTDs numbered like that?

Well the new lady friend is in. After 2 nights of adjusting the neck and saddles, I have her dialed in pretty well. (Seller had other thumbs to play, so the setup was off a bit lol) I definitely captured my dream bass. I love it in every single way. Soooo smooth, and mean when you want it to be. I thought it would be hard to beat my Spector Forte, which is an amazing bass, but this thumb is epic. Harmonics, chord work, slap, boost the lows and cut the highs to get that smooth roll, she does everything that I want. Only thing left to do is acquire a good rig and start gigging again to see how she does in a live mix. Glad to be officially part of the club! \m/
 
You're just missing one string. :-)

... and apart from SEs. Both of mine are numbered with the total given, 003/011 and 014/087.
So it is really the other way round: they do use a logical numbering for all limited series, apart from the annual LTDs. Somewhat confusing and irritating.
