I saw you also posted pics in the Streamer Club. Maybe you or other Thumbers could help me with a question (which is somewhat blasphemic in the Thumb Club). I would like to complement my all-Ovangkol Thumb BO FL 4 (shown in the club earlier) with another FL 4-string bass of totally different sound characteristics. I was thinking SS1, but I have never heard a SS1 4-string FL. Or should I look for a Katana, Dolphin, Buzzard, or Infinity?
Which model would you suggest?

Taman, i would back my bass NOW... If is not a problem :lol: ... Wonderful, just like i've told you, it has one of the best wood's grain that i ever seen on a Thumb :)

Hm... I've never heard SS1 FL too, but I've heard fretted SS1 about year 2010 of production. Compare to my basses - SS1 sounds more softly and gently with nice smooth sound. My SS2 absolutely wild - a lot of growling, brutal low-frequency-power sounding - real balls shaker! But SS2 very versatile instrument - it can sounds in many ways. My Thumb NT sounds very similar (brutal power, nothing more), but it's not so versatile - it have tough character of sounding. Also SS2 have better balance than Thumb - I mean, it is bit more comfortable to play on SS2 than on Thumb.

About Katana, Dolphin, Buzzard, and Infinity - I think that Infinity have more alternative sound (than your Thumb), but I don't ever hear Katana and Buzzard.

Thanks! Yes, it have very impressive wood's grain. Absolutely amazing! :) Back your bass? :) Not now (give me enough time to play with this Thumb), but if I'll want to let this thumb go away - you will be first man that I'll ask! :lol:
 
Ahaha, easy Taman, your photos has let me think that sell also the Thumb fretless could be a stupid thing :-/
 
Cool I can show you my new 1997 Thumb NT 5 string. I got it this week and it's like Christmas day!

Just acquired an ovangkol 2003 Thumb 5 fretless bolt-on. It will be here next week. Can't wait!!
 
Wooohooo! Fretless thumb BO might be probably the best fretless in the world. At least the one I tried it was :)
 
It has arrived. 2002 model. Very nice condition. Save for a damaged tuner and small blemish where someone installed a thumbrest and then later removed it, it's in nearly brand-new condition. The trussrod cover looks like it's never even been popped open.

I put a set of DR Sunbeams on it, and did a quick setup on it.. it didn't need much. The action lowered, and the pickups raised a bit. Plays and sounds amazing.

This is my second fretless, and only unlined fretless I've owned. Amazing it did not take very long at all to get used to it. I feel very confident with it already. One of the first songs I played on it was Sledgehammer :)

Congratulations, very nice! I own an Ovangkol 4-string FL Thumb, and tend to believe that FL brings out the Thumb-growl even more.

PS: What would you want fretlines for? One cannot really see them while playing, and without them, the neck is much more elegant. ;)

Just tried out gold hardware on my 88 thumb. I think I prefer black hardware for the first time ever. Thoughts?
 
Black hardware for me too. Especially if it's the brass version. ;)
 
Yeah it is brass. The black is just smoother and more sinister. Me like. Someone should photoshop the jmvc pickups into my thumb with black hardware :)
