Just out of sheer curiosity and the fact that I'm drooling over the thumb, which body wood (ovankol or bubinga) is better for tone and feel? I really love the looks of both. Any particular reason why Warwick decided to change the woods?

Honestly, Ill take either of them. They are literally sexy pieces of music making gloriousness. Sorry guys, that was the first thought that came to mind and I'm sticking with it. Gurnemanz I havent ever heard a thumb with bart's. Maybe one day I'll be able to hear it. All I know is the Thumb is my dream bass. It used to be Ernieball. I own a Sterling 4 HH, and she sounds great and I love the neck, but something is missing. I have a Pro Serie corvette 4(ash and passive) I've gotten more complements on that sound over the Ernieball. Everytime I hear the thumb and see it, I go nuts. No other musical instrument except Martin acoustics and Steinway baby grand paino's does that to me. I have to get my hands on a thumb! Being in South Korea doesn't help with that at all!
Joe, I will post a sound file in the not too distant future. For starters, here's the pic of my all-ovangkol FL Thumb BO with Bartolinis I posted to join the club half a year ago.
Love the sound, love the wood, love the feel, love the growl. But really, coming to think of it, I love the sound of Thumbs. period
(Yes, I do like my Corvette $$ 8-string, and like the wide array of sounds you can get out of it if you play with the potis and switches. But the Thumb's tone is just there. No need to try this or try that.)

So, I rolled up to Seoul today to check out Nakwon Music Arcade. Three floors of musical greatness. So many instruments in one building. The funny thing is that there was only one shop that had a few high end basses. Mostly Warwicks! 2 Dolphins, an Infinity, 2 thumb BO 5, 2003 LTD Thumb, and the one and only Thumb NT 4. The owner of the shop plugged it in and it sounded sooooo good! Literally amazing love to my ears. The highly unfortunate thing is that there was a kid that decided to play it and Fender American Deluxe Jazz. He and his father chose the better of the two, the thumb :/ Definitely a little down about it, but one day Ill get my hands on one. GAS'ing like a boss right now, and slightly depressed...
Hi guys, tomorrow I will be buying one Thumb (my first warwick!!) and I was a little confused with the "pre/post 98" thing. This one has the number J 052 and ends with 98. Can you tell me if it has the wide or thick neck? and also, has it wenge or ovangkol?
