just wondering if anyone knows what kind of a year 97 was for production i know certain years seem to be better or mark changes in production i'm pretty sure 97 was the year they stopped making bubinga standard

We had different years, but not like... better vs worse years.
We never stopped using Bubinga as standard, we even started to use higher grade Bubinga - the pomele one.

Anyway, I've seen some great 97 Warwicks

It's the pickup positioning. 5-stringer has neck pickup slanted like the bridge one and in addition it's closer to the bridge.

I keep several 5 string basses together--all in the same room--and they are not that aggressive. As a matter of fact, they seem to get along quite well.

I am asking becouse i am more into 4 stings and maybe i should change 5 to 4 strings.

The reason 5'er Thumbs are called more 'aggressive' in sound is exactly as o_s said- the neck pickup is closer to the bridge than in the 4 string Thumb and slanted toward the B string.

Nobody called you a moron.
o_s mentioned the different pickup positioning because it is the main contributing factor to the 5 SOUNDing different to the 4.
The size of the fingerboard wont make any difference.
