There was a member here who was making custom built wooden knobs,& selling them for pretty reasonable prices.I cant remember his user name,but he was based in the USA.A search might be able to find the thread he made offering these knobs.I do remember however,that they looked bloody cool.

I've had my Thumb 4 NT for a little more than a year now, and I'm definitely hooked. I love the playability, sound, and beauty. Here's my baby:



The only question is: what's next? I've been thinking about a Thumb 4 NT Fretless. Haven't found one yet... let me know if you see one for sale...

The Thumb 4 NT fretless is a real state of the art, I hope you find one soon, and if you don't dislike 5 or 6 string basses I suggest you a wonderful Thumb 6 NT fretless (better with Bartolini PU). A dream come true!

I do not dislike 5 or 6, but I think that's too much bass for me right now. However, I do agree a Thumb 6 NT fretless would be amazing!

New Thumb GAS

Hi there,
after in owning two Thumb 4 NTs in the past (89 and 97), I found I can´t live without :roll: So I´m gassing for a 5er NT. As I cannot afford a new one (at least not without selling my beloved, but hardly played Cliff Bordwell 4-string) I´ll go the used-route.
And there´s my question: Can anybody tell the tonal difference between the ebony and wenge fingerboards? I for sure now about the general difference, but would be very interested in experiences especially with the Thumb.
I guess, someone here can tell me. Thanks.

Another walnut body Thumb "Awsome"
I've had quite a few Thumbs, 98 bolt on 5 string, 89 nt 6 string, 02 bolt on 6 string, But by far the best are the early bolt on walunt body thumbs like this lovely example you have, i have it's 6 string brother made in 95 Check it out :d

Yes yours has the walnut body, same as my 6 string, my one looks darker in that pic but in the flesh is the same.
If you ask florin i'm sure that he will confirm yours is walnut, these are quite rare & have a unique tone compared to later thumbs (warmer & sweeter)
That one you have looks mint, if you ever sell it i'll buy it you would regeret it though, What amplification do you play it through?

Got this a few months ago, and in so doing realized a long-standing ambition to be a Warwick owner. At first glance I wasn't sold on it, but I slowly warmed to the looks and now I can't get enough of it. Strung it up with some DR Black Beauties and it's like butter. This is surely #1 of what will become a life-long Warwick obsession.

I bought the bass used about 2 months ago. It seems that after a long journey of buying and selling basses I finally got what I should have bought years ago! I never had the feeling when I bought a bass in the past that that one was going to last. This time I feel I bought a keeper!

I play through a Hartke HA2500 head and a pretty old (one of the first series) Hartke XL410 cabinet.

I also have a question. I tried to wax the body with beewax but it turned out that the wax just stayed on the surface. I was able to rub it off very easily. Is the body my bass has satin laquered?

This is a possibility.
Also a bass of it's age, has already a protective layer on the surface, so don't expect to absorb the wax like a new one.
The satin finish is still a solid finish, while the oil finish let you feel the wood. So I guess it is easy to make a difference. Do you feel it like satin or like bare wood?
