If you order a 4-string, then you'll have a "normal", more traditional PU's placement.

However, if you order a 5-string, you'll have that tilted, close to the bridge placement.

Hi, guys.

I`m currently looking for a lefty Thumb BO, but I see that the pick-up`s position varies from "tilted, close to the bridge", to a more normal Jazz-style. If I order a BO from Warwick, will it come with jazz-style placed p/u`s or what?

The 5 and 6 string thumbs have the tilted pickups. The ones with 4 strings have one tilted at the bridge, and one straight at the neck.

You can have them anyway you like through Custom Shop, and it is not much more expensive.

Thanks, Flo. I like to play closer to the neck, so if I go for one, it`ll be a 5`er with bridge/neck pickups.

Is it to get a tighter B-string-sound they tilt the pickups?

If your bass is well adjusted, you will noticed that the pickups follow the saddles line, so they actually have pretty much the same distance from the bridge.
I guess for a tighter B, and for a more equal response from string to string.

Introducing: The Hissy Thumb!

Hello one and all, Henry here! I'd picked up a a 97' Thumb 5-string off of Ebay, about two weeks ago, for a crazy $1,300.00 US, with a fairly new gig-bag. But I've one issue with it. And am wondering if anyone else may have had a similar issue. With the volume totally off and plugged in, and in active mode, we've a discernable hiss made more pronounced by turning the treble totally clockwise! Put it in passive.....NOTHING! Ie; no hiss!

This is on another post, with dialog following my initial queries, and I've received responses...been told that it may be the treble pot...but I'm wondering of anyone has had a similar problem and what they may have done to correct the issue. I've had two other Warwick's and they've been totally quiet. This just bother's me, as I've come to expect these basses to be just that; effective, pronounced, quality & quiet tonal machines!

Please lend me your experiences! And we thank you, Henry!

Hi Henry. My 01 5 string Thumb does this as well. It is really noticable with the horn in my combo amp on. I guess that makes sense as the hiss is all treble. I never have the treble up much or play the amp that loud to really notice it. Plus normaly I keep the horn tweeter off anyway. Ive had the bass for about a week now and didnt really notice it until you posted this.

3rd times a charm (3rd time i've owned a thumb 6):

just came today...
'95, basically the same specs as the '90 i owned (twice).... the pups will be replaced with bartolinis.
not sure, as it needs a setup...but there might be slightly less radius on the fretboard than the '90 had... otherwise, same bubinga/ wenge combo with
the brass nut. it will be tuned f#, b, e, a, d, g, low to high.
i've also owned a fretless thumb4 in the past.
love these basses.

the smith was outrageously nice, but could not cut it with a low f#.
i actually sold that bass to help fund buying a home 3 years ago....
but i got some nice mems. i got a lot of pics of past lovers... i mean basses...
the ns will stay, it was my #1 since 2003...
the thumb will be it's compliment, if not taking over #1 entirely.

Warwick Bass Case!

Morning Doug, Newbie Henry here; a new 97 Thumb owner! I'm just wondering where you acquired your case for the Thumb? I want to get one just like it! Are there any state-side or was this an overseas purchase? Thanks for your time!

The case came with the bass, has Warwick logo as part
of the mold.
I suggest either an incase gig bag, or if
you want a road case maybe ordering something custom, and
heavy duty since you are in the us. Importing parts etc. for Warwick
basses can be quite expensive...
My case is no better than a universal molded skb.
Oh, figured out my thumb has a normal truss rod, not dual
action like my old one(which was problematic)...
The action on this bass is really ridiculous...
So low, no buzzing!

They do look great! I thought about the same gift for my Wicks, but in bubinga.

Why don't you post a tutorial in order to show how to "build" homemade wooden knobs?
