=The Warwick Thumb Club=

Hey all, new to this forum and new to Warwick Basses, I've always admired the look and liked the feel of them, for decades really...

So, I finally took the plunge on a Thumb BO 4-String, today, the serial is - L-000181 93 - so I'm guessing that this one is the 181'st Thumb made in Dec of '93?

Is there are part of this site (or elsewhere) where I can get some more information on the wood used?

Just took it home today and changed the strings up and after some fiddling with the adjustable nut and my surprise that the bridge saddles are not fixed (please forgive my newbie-ness) I have a lovely, vibrant instrument, very happy.

As for the bridge saddles - they have small imbus screws to fix them; have a look at the Warwick videos on the bass setup

I literally was just watching that video and realised the saddles need to be/could be fixed in place, thanks!

Welcome to the forum and Warwick. Congrats on the Early BO! Remember, as Nacho says...no pictures = Bass only exists in your mind :rolleyes::D

Yours would be the 181st Thumb BO4 ever made...not just that month. And yes, December.

As for woods...
Lots of 1st year BO’s had a Walnut body. Neck and board would be Wenge. There were possibly some Afzelia Thumb BO’s in ‘93.

I noticed that on Reverb there's an Italian seller with L 000180 93 for sale, pretty cool, mine looks in slightly better condition, so this is Walnut right? Is the neck Ovangkol/ekanga?

The neck and fretboard are wenge, the body could be (IMO) bubinga. Nice bass, nice pics!!
 
OooOOOH ! Nice thumb, the contrast between the two parts of the body is IMO really sexy. THis is definetely a Wengé neck, and that's good. Body... hard to tell. It seems light colored to be bubinga (but the palette of this wood is soooooo large...) , might be Ovangkol, though. Thumbs are usually Bubinga. Is it heavy ?

I have her little sister ! C 000188 93
Body is in walnut, you're right and neck+fingerboard in wenge

That's great, I'd love to see some pics!

Thanks so much for the info everyone, I'm really happy, I'm going to send her off to get properly set up and have a little tlc, that missing screw on the truss rod cover, for instance, then I guess I need to get myself some wax!
