I come to present my 2 thumbs recently purchased.
Incredible instruments especially the 5 strings.
I just have a doubt about the wood used for the body

For the 4 strings WW says me :

The pieces of the body is OK but with the color of wood I thought that bubinga for the 4 strings and Ovangkol for the 5 string
can you help me on this mystery

Hello there.

Have in mind wood is a natural material, it is not synthetic, human-made. One tree of a given specie could have a noticeable variation from any other tree, just like humans, and other living things.

Boobinga is a brown-red-ish wood, both basses have boobinga bodies. Enjoy them beauties!

bought 2007 (Ebay)
acc. HPW one of the first 5 strings built. And he confirmed that 2piece bridge is original (no after sales mod).
Actually, he told me: all original..
Old granny needed a "face lift"...hahaha...
Tuners new (one of the Original was "not working well")
Bushings new (brass / original plastics already broken)
PUs new (old EMGs and Original BEC 1 electronics didn't work perfect after 20 years..) / BEC3 new.
Beside that mods: all original !!
Sound: GREAAAAAAT!!!
 
unfortunately I did not take any photos back then when Granny arrived at home (in 2007)...it took me some "cleaning" work to make her shine again..;)

Question...is the serial visible? I only ask due to the pickup angle, 2 piece bridge and no JD on the cover.

@Hoggles: when I bought that bass in 2007 I was pretty sure that it must have been „after sales modified“ (by Warwick). I knew that Warwick offered in early 90ies a modification of older Warwicks (with Schaller 3D) to the 2-piece bridge made by Schaller.
Those „concerns“ I ve shared with HP Wilfer. He answered: no, no, you are wrong. in late 1986 we already used the 2piece bridge on Thumb 5!
So, maybe one of the first WW with the new bridge??:cool:;)
 
That’s fantastic! Gotta be one of the 1st with the 2 piece. L60 86 has the Schaller as well as severe pup angle. L58 86 has a 2 piece bridge, but it has modded Smith pups and I always thought something was not right. Turns out, that and yours may be the 1st Wicks with the new bridge. Would also be the earliest I’ve seen the mellow pup angle on a Thumb 5. Pretty cool!
