Here is the first NT5 Thumb I owned. It was a '98 one. I sold it in order to try some other high end basses:

And here is the second I own now (a '91 one). It took me some time to realize I'm in love with that sound!

And yes, there is also my trusty SS1 on this picture.

The pickups appear less angled on the '91. Is that accurate or just my 20/13 vision? Lol

I think you might be right, if you google both years it does appear that the later ones are more angled.

uh, I actually can't explain. 2002 Thumb BO 5 in mint condition with original case, manual, and tools. Great, great price. 9.5lbs. Yes I'm one of those people that love the early/mid 2000's necks. 2 gigs this weekend so...

Jack Bruce would have been the most famous/Hall of Fame Thumb rocker. Nearly exclusively for 30 years. All the Cream songs that Jack did on Thumbs during his solo career. Lots of popular stuff there. Are you're wondering more about studio work with Thumbs? As far as original big pop hits.... slim pickins for sure. Biggest pop hit with a Thumb might have been Terence Trent D'Arby "Wishing Well"...with that 1988 Pink Thumb. You can see it in the video. That song grossed a shit ton of money, no doubt. Of course Prince probably played some of his classics live with his Eye Thumb. Not sure if he used it at all for studio work.

Haha, I still feel bad about swooping in and nabbing it If it makes you feel any better, I desperately wanted the '01 SE you got. That has the one of the more gorgeous slabs of swirly Bubinga I've ever seen. A true gem. Yeah, I love the Lacewood. Such a cool wood. It has a really strong 3D like effect when looking at the grain in different ways. That was the first wood I thought about, when I got the idea to make my own bass (still hasn't happened). Other unique things about the Flamin' Blonde.... It's the only Thumb to have a Streamer knob config. The only one to have custom inlaid knobs. The only one with a colored "W"....and the only one with an inlay on the headstock. Just to rub it in, Paul

I've never owned any other BO Thumb, so I'm not sure what it sounds like compared to the norm....but with the Jazzman pup config, it sounds very different to my NT's. Definitely "hotter", little more raw and punchy. Unfortunately the neck pup is nearly useless on it's own. Super noisy. I love playing her though. Great neck and fb. One of these days I'll make comparison demos of my Thumbs. They all sound very different. Really loving the sound of the EMG's on my '85 at the moment.
