'94 Thumb BO 6 Fretless

Hi Friends,

Recently discovered the Warwick site. Posting my Thumb to join in on the fun. '94 Thumb BO Fretless.
 
Welcome to the forum Mclay1, you have a very rare bass, you know that? This could be the best fretless bass ever made :-)
 
Jeroen Thesseling has got a lot of those. me wants it.
 
Oops, I did it again

Even though I'm a newcomer to the Thumb fraternity, I decided to double my collection by snagging this one:



I hope that's a reasonable price, but regardless, I didn't buy it to resell. My Thumb BO6 is in the shop for some fretwork and whatnot, and I should get it back today. :d

I'm guessing the Barts on my "new" Thumb NT6 are original? The seller didn't know whether the dots were original or not, I'll have to ask Warwick. Looks like the NT will be just less than a pound heavier than my BO.
 
Those pics make me want to play a Thumb but I guess I should stfu.

There is definitely something wrong with the short horn of this Thumb (the right one). Really. I mean it.
 
It looks just... weird, wrong. Like, WTF? :D

Now, that's just an aesthetic detail, but it caught mah eyez. :)

Well, thanks for trying to harsh my buzz, :lol: but here are a couple of pics I snagged off the internet (these are from music store sites) that also show kind of a "funny" lower horn:





The first one, in particular, shows a more "upright" horn similar to the one in the ebay auction. Remember also that the one in the auction is a '95, not a 2011. Not sure what may have happened in the 16 year gap there, but I'm sure there were a few minor variations here and there.
 
Actually, I know the Thumb very well. ;) (that's my favorite bass ever, it helps). :D

Still, it looks weird on the pictures. Maybe that's only on them. Anyway, good auction. :)
 
The dots were not standard at that time, but maybe they were factory fitted like... a Custom SHop. We used Bartolini in the early 90's for 6 string basses.

And, regardless of the fact that Morgoth thinks the lower horn looks "funny", this thing is a work of art. I was, and still am, pretty impressed with my Thumb BO6, but this bass is on a whole 'nother level. It has a fairly new set of what looks like Warwick stainless strings, and the action is spectacularly good. I just had the frets leveled and crowned on my BO6, and this action is lower.

It appears that the pickups may be original, but the preamp is not. Nonetheless, it has that very characteristic Thumb tone. Not quite the same as my BO, but more alike than different. Warwick didn't seem to know if the dots were original, but they also told me that the woods of this instrument are the same as the new ones, which is obviously incorrect. The new Thumb NT's are bubinga with an Ovangkol/Ekanga neck, whereas this one is bubinga with a Wenge/Bubinga neck. The new ones also have ebony fingerboards, while this one is clearly Wenge. I had hoped for better information from Warwick.

Nonetheless, this is an amazing bass, and I look forward to playing it more.

Nice catch man! The lower horn does look a bit different but who cares!
 
Congrats on a sweet bass Krabster. If anything, it looks like your lower horn allows better access to the upper register.
