the bass was recorded directly into the PC's soundcard - an oldschool Creative SoundBlaster live 5,1.
i am currently studying the market for amp and cab ( and a preamp, too) - meaning that i am saving up for a nice combination :)

Just keep trying. I got lucky on this vid. i just set up the camera and ripped it. Thanks or the props.

My wife's shi-tzu, lounging on the green chair, wasn't near as excited as i was. lol i miss that old dog. yesterday was one month since we had to put her down (she was an old dog) and in every vid and pic of me playing she is in there somewhere. lol
 
I have recently posted some newer pics of my NT4 but i just found an old one with an older bass rig of mine. '88 THumb NT4, Amepg B2R, and SWR Henry the 8x8. seperatly those are all good pieces of equipment but together they produce the tone that i dreamed of. I miss that rig. still got the bass though.
 
Awesome slapping there sir :) It's one of those techniques that I really ought to try and get down - I wouldn't use it all that much, but it's handy nonetheless.

I have been trying for years and keep on missing the string I am trying to slap if I do not keep looking at it. also the pop.... mine is poop right now. I need to improve and your video motivated me to do so but I need help learning it.

Hey, you're right on track! That's how I started out. I actually thought there wasn't much to it, that it would be easy, even second nature; one of the things I liked about bass was the sound of the slap 'n pop funk, so I figured I would be doin' it right out the gate. But when I tried, I quickly became discouraged because I too was missing the string I wanted to slap.

My slap turned to slop and my pop turned to poop! (:lol: I like that one trujo...) But I didn't let that stop me. The key was to just keep trying, practice, practice, practice. At least I knew the concept and it was just a matter of time before I could coordinate my hands to follow my mind. The string spacing will become easy for your mind and hands to "feel." I can even slap 'n pop on a 5er without much difficulty of adjustment. There is also a certain element of just getting in the groove and "feeling" it. It was strange, 'cuz one morning before going to work, I just woke up feeling exceptionally good and refreshed, so I went in, picked up my bass, warmed up a bit, and just started "goin' off," getting a little funky groove going and it just happened! I know the practicing and such was key, but I never felt so good as to accomplish something like that. Now it's too easy for me to slap 'n pop too much! :shock: But it is so fun and addictive! :D

One other thing is to relax and don't stiffen up and attack it hard, but let it flow. It should sound and feel natural, not neanderthal.

Madrakket is right on the money. I too thought that it would be easy but it was NOT. It slowly came to me and i made a point to make sure i keep this in my repitoire for EVERY time i play. I don't make a point to slap an entire song but if there is a lil break or an acent that cold be embelished then i might throw a little slapity slap in there. usually it will only be a beat or two, maybe a bar or two at most, but i found that if itried to use slap at some point then it stuck with me.

I IN NO WAY feel that i am a good slapper but people seem to think i am and i am greatly appreciative of the comments. this just makes me want to work harder and harder to become the all around bassist that i want to be.

Haha !! Be glad dude. At least it sounds poop when when you pop: I get a poop sound when I slap. :lol:
 
I don't slap and pop (or even slop and poop), but I do know about practise, practise, practise. If you manage to make it LOOK easy, then you must be getting close. It's amazing when endless hours of practice (at anything) suddenly emerges at your fingertips when you don't expect it! Keep at it, Guys :wink:
 
Slop and poop. Thats funny.

I guess that when i started mine was slop and poop too. I am a little closer to slap and pop now but still have a long way to go till i am happy. PRACTICE!!
 
I just started fiddlin with my dirty blonde last night at practice and found that even before I get it set up, and the action lowered, slapping on it is mad fun.

The Dirty Blonde is a slap monster! Mine is even defretted, yet it slaps and pops like a fretted beast and sounds like a traditional funk machine when using the P pup. Then when I feel like hearing some Bathiki Kumalo, I can do a nice "slap 'n slide!"

My Corvette Std. fretless just sounds like a muffled "thud" when I try to pop on it, as is the case with most fretless basses, but my de-fretted Dirty Blonde has a nice "snap" to it that gives it an almost fretted ring. :D
 
Right now my '93 thumb is my slapping go to, but after the set-up, I have a feeling I'll be gettin dirtier. :lol:
