yup i definitely will i just found some of the more interesting cauterize the earth tracks that never got finished ill probably do those next cause their alot of fun to play :twisted:

In 4 days i can finally call myself a member of the thumb club as well.
I have a '97 Bubinga Thumb BO in more than perfect condition on it's way to me right now,
it will be here on thursday right before i leave for With full force festival..
can't wait, can't sleep,can't eat,..
just a few more days... just a few more days & then it's Thumb action!!! ... :d

I am planning to get some fret inlay's done tho, i'll probably go for the Entwistle (buzzard) style inlays. 8:

will post pic's asap ofcourse! ;)

Well here we go, My 1999 Thumb bolt on and my new 2010 6 string neck through. also my homemade fretless. Good times!!!! First gig with the 6 in a week cant wait!!

cbjbjb, i could kill for your thumb fretless. And i've 2 89 thumb, the Gas never stop :D
 
Hi guys,
my first wick, a '98 bubinga thumb BO arrived today. :)

I just gave it a little set-up (with the old strings, need to buy new ones tomorrow) and it already sounds fantastic.

The neck looks like it has wenge in the middle and ovangkol at the sides with ofcourse a wenge fretboard,i really like the feel of the neck although it's a bit heavy, but soundwise i absolutely love it! :)

I might need to scrape the neck a little tho as the former owner used beewax on it every month for over 10 years and the thick layer of wax is peeling of the neck and slowing me down when i'm playing fast, so i might need to buy some sort of scraping tool for that...

Then i just have to find a solution for the neck dive (was thinking about a short but broad strap and lightweight replacement tuners) and i'm all set to start recording with this baby!:d


Also the frets look like they have an exremely low profile compared to my other basses, is this normal on warwicks or are they just worn out?

Congrats for your new bass :-) The bass probably had a fret job, so that's why they are smaller.
 
I started restoring my new baby to her former glory today,
i scraped the old wax from the neck with a plastic card and then cleaned and oiled it with lemon oil,
after that i started on the frets with some very light sandpaper and cleaned the entire fretboard.

It now has some brand new 45-105 hybrid slinky's on it and i was able to achieve a perfect set-up,intonation spot on on 12th and 24 fret all the way & the action is perfect, i couldn't be happier! :D

( i tried setting up my former basses this perfect before but never suceeded, so i'm VERY happy it finally worked!!! :) :) :) )


The frets are o.k. now,so now i just need to get some wax for the body and some new lightweight tuners (the warwick tuners seem to be a bit worn out after 14 years of use) when i get back from Germany and she's ready for another 14 years of "Growl"! ;)

& ofcourse a new set of dunlop straplocks and a suitable strap as my other straps are way too long for the thumb and cause too much neck dive.

Any advice on the new tuners?
wich ones should i buy?
does the weight of these lightweight tuners really make a difference as to the neckdive of the thumb?

Also does anyone have any advice on a good strap for the thumb as i will be carying my bass closer to the chest form now on i think (i used to carry my basses lower, but the thumb will change that i think)

anyway here some picture's i took after i cleaned her up! ;)
 
Hi Don, nice pics :-)

Light tuners should be (all of them) like 100 grams lighter than the other ones. This should affect the balance pretty much. A wide leather strap will help too.

We use Hipshot Ultralites

eed, plus a wide leather starp (thomann has good ones), will have more grip to hold the bass then a nylon one, I use leather straps on both me guitar and Bass :)
