=The Warwick Thumb Club=

In 1988/89 I was working in a local guitar shop when Terence Trent D'Arby (remember him?) came on the TV. His bassist (Cass Lewis) was using the most unusual, but beautiful bass we had ever seen. It even remained beautiful despite the fact that it was bright pink! After much persuasion the shop owner bought one in, and how we marvelled at the beauty and quality of the Warwick Thumb bass. The sound was crushing, the build quality superb and the wood a joy to behold. It was expensive, but after 3 months of playing it every day it had to be mine! 4 years of Hire purchase payments later and it was! It has been my mainstay bass for over 20 years now, and as luck would have it, in 2008 I was able to take ownership of a 1988 Pink Warwick Thumb Bass - as once owned by Cass Lewis. Who doesnt believe in Karma?

A question to Florin: have the neck pickup cavities been routed for "bridge J" (94 mm) width? As you can see in Retroscope's '91 and the body shot of my '90, the fit of the bridge pickup is dead on, but the neck pickup is not so perfect. My bass has stock MECs, but apparently the same "feature" exists with Retroscope's Bart-equipped NT4.

I vaguely see a Bart 9J1L/LN set or two EMG-LJXs in the horizon...

I have just joined the thumb club, and love the patter I have read and the pictures I have seen so far. I have just asked Florin for his sagely advice regarding the preamp on a 1989 Thumb (EMG's...natch!), but would also like to hear from anyone out there who might have some knowledge in the same area. As much as I love my basses I have always felt the sound a bit thin from the bridge pickup, and was wondering if anyone could suggest a better preamp that would add a bit more depth and punch? I was thinking about the Aguilar OBP-2 or a friend suggested Sadowsky? Any more detail and recomendations would be most welcome. Thanks!

Hello everyone i just scored big on a 1995 nt 6 thumb. i used to have a 5 bo, but sadly i sold it due to financial reasons! but i made up for it with this one. first order is when i get it to rock it out hard for a few hours then replace the basslines with nordstrand big singles! call it blasphemy but the basslines have a low output and the nordys have a super loud aggressive sound that i crave.im even considering installing a john east u retro preamp just to make her even more incredible. im beyond syked to once again join the ranks of warwick thumb users and to own a nt only increases my excitement. especially because its a 95 in mint condition!!!

Aha, at first I saw Flo' post, and I thought, whoa, PAPPASGRIND must be some kind of kick-ass Romanian interjection... and then... hem, my bad, hahaha, so stoopid; :lol:

thanks everyone i cant wait to get her in my hands ive only played 5 string nt thumb and a bo 6 string thumb so im pretty pumped to get the best of both worlds! has anyone ever tried nordstand big singles in their warwicks?
