Hello, I am a new owner of a 94 Thumb NT4, thin neck as my corvette $$, no neck dive that I read a lot about. Replaced the tuners by Graphtech Ratio, the output jack by Switchcraft, strung with Labella 760 FGS (flats). What a bass !

Here's a couple of my thumbs. I really love my single cut the best. I bought the 5 string bolt on new in 1999, thr 2018 single cut I got second hand out of Japan. I looked like it had never been played. Custom shop with bartolini pickups, slanted pickup angle and matching headstock. The stained neck is killer and satin finish. I saw this bass when it was in the custom shop gallery and thought one day, one day came on Ebay. Was so happy when it arrived as new, even the accessories were unopened.

Damn, the singlecut is just perfect! During my last CS-order i was really thinking about the single cut... i'm wondering how the slanted pickups are affecting the tone?

Yeah, I've been considering getting a Thumb SC too, but I like 5 string basses, and I don't like broadneck versions... :/

Well, after a few months of delays, I finally got my triple-pickup Thumb BO back from the luthier and it's a BEAST! It took him quite a few weeks to figure out the best way to wire it all up, but he came up with a pretty good system:

1. The switch on the front simply turns the middle MEC pickup on or off, like a typical bridge Jazz or Humbucker coil-tap. (Like a Lakland 55-94 or MTD Kingston Heir 5, etc.)
2. But inside the control cavity, there's a toggle-switch that selects which pickup will be "paired" with the bridge pickup - either the mid pickup or the neck pickup. Pairing the mid and neck pickups seems the best, so far, or at least the most "normal".

You can certainly get quite a lot of interesting tones with this setup, including a fairly crisp Jazz-ish tone, but switching on all 3 pickups with a decent amount of bass and treble boost, is absolutely KILLER! I've never owned a Dingwall NG-3, but I reckon this would be just as fat and have a better tone!!! (I have owned earlier Dingwalls, before the prices sky-rocketed, but never really bonded with them.)

P.S: Yes, the EMG pickup needed to be wired differently to be in-phase with the MECs. (Swapped the red and white wires on the EMG.)

Did the triple coil on the streamer nt1.

Passive. Vol, blend and a 6 point varitone.

The switch is a on on on

1 position is for original stock configuration

2nd position all 3 plus blend to used bridge or neck with muddle pickup .

3rd just the middle

Awesome to see your mod on a thumb.
 
Of course, with pleasure! The thumb in the centre was a purchase from an inheritance and not in the best shape. The bass itself was covered with a thick layer of blue paint, foil stars were glued on and another thick coat of clear varnish was applied. So no serial number was recognisable.

I stripped the complete Body and Neck and the serial number came to light. HP Wilfer told me it must be a 1998 Custom Shop Instrument, but the paintwork was definitely not from Warwick. The Electronics doesn't work well, so i replaced some parts of it with the spare parts from warwick. Also I ...leveled? the frettboard and polished the frets.
