Yeah, that must be the 60th 5'er made in November of '86. It sold through Talkbass last Sept for $2900. It was back on sale at Talkbass for $2900 just until today when it was ended. Now, it's on ebay for $3400.

Not sure what's going on there, other than a money grab. All those prices are waaaaay too much. Even for #60.
 
Well she has agreed to work off the dowry over the course of a trilogy of albums. I'm thinking about it.....

I'm not sure what happened. Last night I had gone to the wine bar after a rough day at work and admittedly imbibed a bit more than usual. When I woke up this morning I saw this message of congratulations on my engagement to an oil finish Thumb NT 5 unlined fretless.

Someone asked for pics of my Red '87 (?) Thumb 5 NT so here are a few. There has been quite a lot of stuff on this site re: this bass over the 10 or so years I have been a member of the forum.

Alas, I am no longer a Thumb owner. The weight of my NT 5 became an issue on long gigs so I sold it to a much younger player that will (hopefully) rock that sh!t!

For sure either an '86 or early '87. '86 was the first year for 5er's (I believe)...and JD's ended in '87...With maybe a unicorn or two past that. Type of thing where the builder found a few spare JD truss rod covers and didn't want to waste em :)

Hey guys.

So I'm the proud owner of both a Thumb 5 BO and a Vette $$6. The $$ being my main axe for seven years now and I love it. Around summer last year I got a great deal on a used Thumb, so I went for it without giving it a second thought and I really enjoy the midgrowl my $$ can't provide. But since we started to use lower tunings in our band (the lowest being a low A so far) I went to back to using my $$ due to its stronger low end. I just find the Thumb to be lacking some real low end growl and I am thinking of selling it for a Dingwall or Spector...

What do you guys think? I want a clear and deep open B or A string. The $$ kind of does that but I find myself to be wanting a different sound sometimes.
 
Hey @SixToRule ! I'm playing Thumbs primarily, and my main band tunes in C standard, with my lowest string being G. I don't have any problems with a lack of bass or clarity, but I suppose it depends on what tone you have in your head :). If the Thumb is not doing what you want, then get something else. Perhaps you can provide us with some examples of what sound you are looking for, and it would be easier to help you get there?
