Nice Streamer! What pot did you use for the mid sweep on the OBP-3? I asked the guys at Best Bass Gear at one point, but they said there wasn't a really good pot solution out there, and didn't recommend doing the mid sweep like that. Looks like you proved them wrong!

Since the modding project completed i guess i shall join here... with a '95 Streamer Bolt-On:

It now has a Aguilar OBP-3 (set up for fully parametric mids, 200-800 Hz) and sounds awesome with it.
Minor oddity: this has a 3-piece body, not sure how that happened.

Now if i could just find stacked knobs that aren't much higher than the non-stacked ones...
Beautiful!

Lovely Streamer BO, is that a natural colour or "antique tobacco" finish?

The grain looks like Cherry so my guess is antique chewbacca finish.

Thanks guys :)
It's a maple body with 'Antique Tobacco' finish. I wonder why it's seen so rarely, i really like it.

Sounds like they haven't read Aguilars wiring suggestions! A friend was nice enough to do a variant of #8 in the (500k dual linear) for me and pulled the lowest frequency down to 200Hz.

Right, I forgot they first used cherry wood, and then "plain" maple, before using flamed maple like in my LX.

Antique Chewbacca finish it is. 8:

Actually, I asked BBG about that exact option. Don't mean to hijack this thread but here's the info I got. (BTW, I recently had my luthier put in the to add to my Spector's OBP-1, and it's the beesknees! SO much flexibility):

"Option #8...hmmm..

Well, this is a tough one. Aguilar has mentioned to me that they should remove that option off the page as it is quite difficult to find that 500Klinear taper pot. I havn't found one that will work on most instruments either.

This is the closest one - It's threaded portion of the shaft is not long enough to go through the wood in an electronics cavity that is rear accessed. It appears that it will pass through a pickguard or other front 'plate' mounted electronics.

The 'dual' doesn't actually mean that there would be two knobs (stacked), but for our case, refers to the dual set of lugs (like a blend pot, which is also a dual pot, having 6 lugs). I have had some customers come looking for the mid boost cut stacked on top of the sweep pot...that is not a possibility in the aftermarket...similar pots are on other basses, but those bass manufacturers are getting many of those pots custom made for them.

I have corresponded with the tech at Aguilar about using a audio taper 250K pot (a blend pot) in lieu of the linear taper pot. He said that no harm would come of that, but the frequencies would be attenuated differently...which is what I found. I felt like there was just a few positions that were making the change...it was less of a sweep and more of a switch on a pot"

Ah, bad availability of the pots sounds reasonable. We couldn't find stacked options (hence stacked Vol/Bal & Treble/Bass) and may have just been lucky finding a suitable pot at an instrument accessory shop (over here in germany).
I could find out which item it was exactly if it helps anyone.

But the Jon East sounds like a great alternative - parametric mids are way too useful! :)

(I hope this is sufficiently streamer-related for this thread?)

That's probably because many of the so-called audio taper or "log" pots (as in logarithmic relation in resistance between wiper and ground as a function of turn angle) are actually implemented as a crude "dual linear" style approximation of a log curve.

Edit: actually, check out "Changing the Law of a Pot". You might want to experiment a little with your mid frequency sweep control.

Got some DR Neon strings for the SS2... Killed the D and G strings already. Didn't like the feel of the coating, so I put some fast fret on it to lube them up a bit, and now they're totally fudged. Sounds like a hammer against some rotting wood. Guh, £35 down the drain. To be fair they were a bit 'heavy' for me, I like the light gauge strings.
Still, it looks pretty badass:

Fast fret kills such a coating? Nice to know... not very nice to make such an experience!

You should post it in the thread "Things you need to know about strings".

This Streamer Std. will be ongoing some upgrades as time goes by, eg:
A Schaller 3D-5 bridge (preferred with WARWICK ingraving)
An EMG PA2 Preamp/Booster (as the pickup output is a little weak)
Adding a leftover MEC preamp 2 band eq – bass pot and treble pot - or maybe even a leftover MEC preamp 3 band eq - bass/treble pot and middle pot
Jack in to the side (using front jack hole for extra tone control pot)

You didn't kill the strings. They were dead already. Every pack of DR colored strings I've had has had at least one dead or noticeably dull string. They are a good idea, but until someone can come up with a coating/method that does not change the tone at all, I'm done with colored strings.

I was the same, totally over elixers and DR coats, but EMPS are supposedly coated, and dont havethese probs, and arent as rough as wick black strings....cleartone coats are allegedly made in the same (GHS) factory, might have the same kinda thing going in a nickel string.
