=The Warwick Streamer Club=

Hello Warwick-lovers,

I'm in need of your advice. I have the option to expand my collection of a thumb (85) and a SSI (88) with a Streamer Stage II from 1989 with bartolini pickups. I'm wondering in what way will the pickups change the sound? I see ss2's with EMG's, MEC's and Barto's.
Next question, what would be a good price for a 1989 WW SS2 in good shape?

Thanks in advance.

Yours,
Christian

Hi Christian,

Pickups are like microphones. They have an influence, but the don't really change the voice of your instrument, like a microphone does not change the voice of the lead singer.

So a SSII is a SSII no matter what pickups are there. The sound is "tuned" different. The one with barts will have less bright treble, less boomy lows, and it will have good tight lows, and strong "Harley-esque" mids.

But again... you can see a difference only if you A/B two basses one with barts, one with EMG. Otherwise, they will sound just the same :-)

A good price depends on the country... Second Hand prices are low nowadays, so you are lucky. 2 years ago you couldn't find one below 1500 EUR, now you can buy it even for 1000 - 1200. But I think 1300 - 1400 is still a decent price.

Take care

Thanks for your response Florin.
Your explanation of pickups gives me new thinking material, I can get the bass for 1300 euro's in the Netherlands.

Yours,
Chris

so guys i arrived swiss floor last saturday and picked up the „broken“ streamer from 1987 yesterday!
first impression: great deal and good condition for it’s age!!! but since this hidden beauty wasn’t played for years, it does need a lot of care till it’s playable again.

so first of all was bringing back the dried out cherry body to life again:

next step will be heading basscenter to check out the truss rod, pots and exchanging the wires of the 9v battery (yeah i’m lazy this time).

cheers!

As I am becoming tranquil, one and finally whole in the shape of being a monotheistic Dolphinist Purist, I shall be leaving this club on very short notice. Good luck with the venerable judge who shall be taking on the task of redeeming his Warwickism by obtaining the holy Stage One. Live long and prosper. Ugh.

WOW!

Herb, that´s a hell of a Streamer. Hope it doesn´t have any hidden issue. Looking good so far.

That Streamer looks mint! Just as if it has just left the factory (goddammit this sentence is weird).

I've loved my Stage II since the day I got it, but I finally got a set of DR Lo-Riders on last night (my favorite strings). Previously I had D'Addario XL's...which are ok, but not great for my needs. I gave it a good waxing before I got them installed, and now it's a real beauty and sounds/plays exactly how I want! I love the Lo-Riders cause I can dial the action in nice and low and still not have buzz. There's a good chance my girlfriend will be jealous when I'm holding the bass more than her now!

Real nice community :)

dang, that makes me want to punch a baby in the face. Jealous........

Very nice flame on that. Thats a perfect example of a beautiful SSI

Thanks. The neck is flamed too, but I can't get it right on photos. :/

Thanks herbie. ;)

About the broadneck, well, it really feels great. It's impressive the first time you take that very large neck in your hand, but then, it's very comfortable. Feels "like home" as they'd say.

That blue looks amazing! And awesome condition for a early mid 80s?

Just updated my gear with vintage Streamer (Spector headstock #103). I bought it from Schlobodan about a week ago. It has very slim body comparing to any other I have seen but i know there's also slimmer ones:)

...and here's some pics!
