First time poster here, and a new first time Warwick owner as well. I had the good fortune of picking this 2006 Streamer stage two up off of reverb a couple weeks ago. Never having owned a Warwick I wasn't sure what to expect. Now that I've got a few days under my belt all I can say is WOW! What a smooth playing well made bass. I'm still trying to get used to the pre amp. It might seem strange but with my setup I've found that I like to roll the treble and mids all the way off, keep the bass just a tiny bit below the center detent and then favor the rear pickup just a bit. I do love how the blend actually seems to work well through the whole range. Killer sound. I did put a freah set of ernie ball slinkies (nickle) on it and that really smoothed things out from the ss strings that were on it. Here's a couple of pics.

Welcome!!

Beauty SS2!

So my newly purchased 1991 "Streamer Stage I" bass arrived today. :) It's in great condition overall, although it could use a cleaning. As you can see in the photos, it's a bit "dirty" looking.

According to the serial number, the bass was made in February of 1991. I am happy that the bass appears to be all original, including the apparently custom ordered black hardware. The black strap buttons are period correct Schallers and the black knobs are of the standard Warwick variety. The neck is straight as an arrow and the truss rod works as it should. The brass just-a-nut I looks clean (or has been cleaned) with no tarnish and the frets look hardly used with minimal wear, which makes me wonder if the frets were leveled or replaced at some point. Both the electronics compartment cover and battery cover work as they should and close tightly. Other than the black on the strap buttons being faded, all of the hardware is in great condition also with minimal wear. I really like the Gotoh tuners of this era which are precise in tuning and feel smooth when adjusted. I previously owned a '91 Streamer Stage II and the tuners felt and functioned the same. It's interesting that my old '91 SSII was made in August and by that point Warwick had already transitioned to not including a separate battery compartment, as the battery in the SSII was housed in the electronics compartment. The pickups are the standard MEC Gold (with the telltale faded logos) and there is an MEC BEC-II preamp onboard. I will try the MEC BEC-II preamp for awhile to see how I like it in this bass, as I tend to prefer an Aguilar OBP-2 preamp.

I picked up the bass late in the evening from the FedEx depot so I have not had a chance to plug it in to an amp/cab setup yet. Although it does resonate well, sounds great acoustically, and also sounded excellent through the headphone out jack of my amplifier.

I plan to have a luthier friend of mine clean it up and I will post updated photos after I have that done. Cheers!

Thanks Nacho! …and I am sure you think it is cool that my SSI came with black hardware instead of the usual gold, being that you are the CEO of the Say No To Gold Hardware Committee... :p :D

Thanks for the welcome! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.... First off I took the SS2 to band practice for the first time today. What a beast. So clear, tight and growly. I know I said it in my last post but I love how well the blend knob works. Usually on a jazz style bass you only hear a difference for about the first 5% of the blend knob. I've been thinking about installing a Warwick brass adjust a nut. Anybody have any experience in switching from one of the black ones to a brass nut? What do you guys think about the Warwick red label strings? I prefer nickels and I thought I might give them a try. I can't wait to take this thing apart this weekend and give it a real good cleaning/waxing. I think It's been slightly neglected in this area for a while.

there is a tutorial on changing the nut on the warwick website somewhere (maybe even youtube) no big deal. But if it is not broken ...
red labels - don't like them but they are not particularily bad - simply try them - they are not expensive

Nickel Red Labels are the way to go! Very good price and feel and sound great. Avoid steels if you can.

Here's an update on how the clean up and refinish is going with my recently acquired 1991 Streamer Stage I. Today my luthier sent me these photos of the sanding he has done thus far. After sanding he is going to apply the standard Warwick beeswax finish. I'm excited to pick it up hopefully by the end of this week.

Spent a bit of time fettling and settling this old girl... now plays beautifully and the sound is a world away from when it arrived. :)
