=The Warwick Streamer Club=

So we both play Warwick through Ashdown atm. Still the gear could not be more different. But only the gear!

Mine is poor´s man Ashdown/Warwick kit, your´s the rich lawyer kit ;)

Ashdown/Warwick - a poor mans kit? I want to be poor in Spain too, haha! Just kidding, actually I know it´s much tougher in Spain atm than here.

The Streamer LX is one of the most under estimated basses that warwick makes. It may not have the huge bottom or glassy top of the SSII, but it sits great in a mix and sounds/plays so close to the SSI at half the price.

If a guy wanted to sit down and mess with that style of playing, where do you suggest starting?

Im a big fan of Janek Gwizdala and Michael Manring. Buy a looper pedal and start with a 4 to 6 chord idea on a loop and see if you can come up with some phrases. The idea in the video is just a combination of "Black Hole Sun" and "The Space In Between" You dont need more than a 4 string, but i would suggest at least a 5 tuned E-C for the extra chordal range. I dont really get to play like this on gigs, but it is nice to save this sort of things for myself (no money or obligations), it makes it personal and more expressive that way.

Its funny, im just waiting for the extended range haters to come out of the woodwork. Maybe it helps that i have my SSII 5 in the background :)

Cool. I have one I can do E-C, which I have thought about doing for a while. I think I'll do that and mess with some of this style, just because.

What better way to start of the new year, than to add a 1987 Olympic White beauty to da club :) And yes...she was painted in Pretzfeld  :D

What follows is way too much information and way too many pics....but hey, that's how Hoggles rolls, yo. I went on a vintage Streamer crash course the last week. Good times!

I emailed HP late last night, with some photos and as much info as I had...and like the true workhorse we all know he is, I got an enthusiastic response back in 20 min. 9am his time, on New Years Eve weekend. What a stud. He confirmed what is and isn't original and said some cool things about her as well.

I was stoked to hear him say the paint job is original, as I thought it was. HP was stoked to see his white had turned to a "vintage cream white". And he's right...it really has turned that creamy olympic white. Pretty damn sweet. I was quite surprised to hear him say the MEC pups are original as well, which I asked about specifically. If true, it would have to make it one of the earliest examples of a Wick with factory MEC pups. Pretty cool (I'm still a doubtful, but desperately want to believe the master. Please Jah, let it be).

The things that aren't original are the obvious. And that's the 3 band MEC preamp and push/pull knob...and...the biggest mod of all... the battery compartment was routed out, to make it 18 volt (a little piece of me died just typing that). I knew this before purchase though. Luckily it was done decently. One thing thing you can tell is the previous owner(s), have cared for this bass for the last 30 years. No doubt there. Just a few honest dings here and there...but hardly anything on the front, neck & headstock...which is nice.

Biggest surprise would definitely be if the MEC pups were actually installed in November of '87. Because that would be crazy talk kinda stuff.

I named her Gracie.

Nacho, cover your eyes.

Notice the white paint underneath the black cavity paint.

One thing I noticed on every 80's factory painted Wick I could find...was this straight line of clear coat, just below the fretboard transition/carve. And also...the headstock veneer is always high gloss, in all the examples I've seen. Just a heads up to those investigating their own vintage painted Wick. These are some tell tale signs :)

From Hans-Peter:

- First
your Stremer looks pretty much original and I think beside the Controll nothing is changed.. the
way of the laquering is even original, even the front headstock.. we did many instruments with a
clear headstock front... the small lines in the front are toin joints.. so even thats no problem
and the vintage white color .. how beautifull the white changed to the vintage cream white.. very
nice instrument.... here the specs...

That´s a beauty, Congrats!

My eyes are safe, thank you. As much as I don´t like "bling hw" I can appreciate a sexy vintage ´wick, and in this case that weights more than the bling, for sure.
