that's what's the Ultimate 5str Bass for me...

exactly that.

Honey Violin SS I with SD's.

That is a sweet lookin' bass! Honey Violin, Antique Tobacco, and French Violet have been some beautiful colors that I've been attracted to lately and that Honey Violin on your SSI is just gorgeous!!!

Howdy,

Here she is - 2000 Streamer Stage 1 5-string, honey-violin finish, broadneck, 20 mm spacing, Seymour Duncan Basslines. I'm madly in love with her.

I hope you don't sleep at night, because if you do, I'll come and steak that bass!

Gorgeous!

I do sleep at night, but beware - it is with one arm on my gun and the other one wrapped tightly around my Stage 1. :D (just kidding about the gun... not so much about the Stage 1)

90s LX5s. I like the MEC Jazz pickups a lot; nice and growly like my old Fender P basses used to be. I leave the EQs on them (and on my amps usually) flat because I prefer to match the cabs I'm using to what I'll be playing and the rest I try to control through my fingers/pick. These good enough to join the club? Ha!

nice equipment you got there Webtroll man. Welcome tot he forum. I live 1 hour from Austin and annother one of my friends also has an FNA jazzman that maybe we can meet someday and check out the Wics. do you have any other ones?

Did you by any chance uy your bass from "Ryan L." at the TalkBass forums? I know he sold one just like it a while ago.

At this time only those 2. I came close to buying a 5 string FNA with a single bridge humbucker a while back but I passed (money ain't pourin in). It was the same color as my fretted bass. Technically I live in Pflugerville, just outside of Austin. I tell people I live there rather than explain where Pflugerville is. Currently I'm trying to build my own Fender/Warwick bass using a Squier Jazz body, a Warmoth wenge neck, and the guts from a Thumb bass. I still need the blood of a virgin to make it work but alas Austin has few of those!

Indeed I did... not off the TB forums, but off of eBay. I think he was out in Minnesota or somewhere in the midwestern US.

I've not checked in on this thread for a while and boy are there some nice Streamers

I have only recently tracked down through another bass forum, the very first Warwick that I purchased (sold it in a moment of madness) and I manged to persuade the owner (living 200 miles away) to trade for a MM Sterling :D

I also decided that a fretless was the tone I needed for my latest music project so I bagged this...

I still need to strip it down and give it a bit of TLC. At the moment it has the original Bart pups but thanks to a fellow 'W' forum member I established that the preamp is a later MEC 3 band unit. I 'may' want to swap that out as I have always previously preferred 2 band preamps. Nothing wrong with this one and it's probably all in my head. I need to research what might work best with the Barts to get the best out of the fretless.

didn't you have any bigger pics, mate? these ones just load too quick, and it's too easy to see them on the screen...;)

I love your red SSI and the story of tracking it down and getting it back! I'm loving my blue SSI with Bartolini pups and a passive EQ. Yours is almost like seeing mine in red. :D

As for that lovely fretless you got, the Bartolini pups are a very nice choice for fretless tone. Bill Bartolini really knows his stuff and winds his for noisefree, authentic tones. I prefer to go passive on electronics with fretless, as fretless should be the organic, untainted tone made between the fingers, strngs, and wood; electronics begin to remove that tone from the natural element of the upright bass tones they are trying to preserve, IMO anyway.

My Corvette Std. is a fretless and it has passive Bartolini J pups with dual-inline coils to cancel hum and buzz, yet they still have good highs and mids that sound natural and I left the original MEC passive electronics. I get great fretless tones and mwah with that bass.

If you do decide to swap out for a 2-band EQ, I also prefer the bartolini preamps to the MEC. I find the MEC pres can produce hiss over time - at least the older ones anyway. Plus, a Bartolini pre will be better matched to the Bartolini pups for helping keep the tone more "natural" on your fretless. Of course, Mike Pope, Aguilar, and others make great preamps too, but they also tend to be more "aggressive" and effective - better for enhancing fretted basses IMO...
