Non, non, a Zon is completely different from a Jazz Bass. ANd from the other Zon you already have.
But damn, you guys are getting annoying with your Twins...

    Here she is

Looks kinda simple. Wide nut and stringspacing like an old '89 Dolphin Pro1. Similar sound too with lots of mids and harmonics all over the neck. (an '89 Dolphin has the same kind of pickup, at bridge position)

As with almost every used bass I receive the setup was bad. Intonation was off, A and D string bridge saddles sat way too low which made playing beyond the octave impossibru. You can also adjust the spacing on its bridge and I had to fix that too.

So I can't help but wonder what percentage of bassists out there are playing on bad setups? I get the feeling most of them...

Anyway, I now have a reportedly mid eighties (altho the serial number 145596 makes me wonder if the 96 means 1996) Zon Legacy 4 with a battery in it and a handsoldered preamp that I can't figure out yet. The tone control acts like a passive, the three way switch sounds bright in middle position and muffled in both other positions. What does this thing actually do?

I will probably throw a regular Bartolini 2 band pre in there ASAP and replace the switch for a coilmode switch.

    NUBD !

    Five knobs !!!!

For those who don't speak MM,
    five knobs control:
    Gain
    PU Blend/Fader
    Three Bands of EQ

Some may wonder how PU blend
works with just one PU ... but the
magic of a five knob MM is in the
    bridge: Fishman piezos :)

MM no longer offers piezos, and
they no longer offer FL, with any
    bass, regardless of model, gender,
    race, faith, dietary restrictions etc
etc. IOW, none at all. Nadda, zero,
zip, zilcho FL basses, period, full
    stop, RIP, finito, case closed.

Soooo, clearly this is truly among
    the very last surviving individuals
of its species. And it's a young one
as well, 4 yrs old. No matter, there
has been zero success at breeding
    them in captivity. Another species
    lost to climate change :-(

But this ax will easily outlive all of
    today's players, and the following
    generations will have no interest
in real instruments. They will be
playing back stuff they make with
apps that write digital media files.

    IOW: " I got mine ! "

That'a a very cool bass, congrats.

Really? didn't know that. Not a very smart move, IMO, considering one of the most popular fretless sounds are based on Pino Palladino's fretless Stingray.

It's easier to understand the discontinuance of the
piezo option ... expensive, rather niche market, and
requires additional routing, components, wiring etc.

But dropping FL ? None of those justifications apply
other than a different wood for the FB ... and acoarst
it's in much more demand across BassLand than the
    Fishman piezo system.

    ==================================

Natcherleeeeee ...... I even have a Wick with a piezo
bridge. Don't know if it's factory of modified, as it
lacks the usually set of gain balancing pots for each
saddle, which means there is no extra access panel
on the back, behind the bridge ... plus, it has EMGs,
which kinda suggests a modded ax.

Haven't posted this here yet but this is my second bass build (first completed lol)

I call it Walwannabe. I would love a Wal really badly but i cant justify the prices...in extensive searching the Wal tone has been said to be attributed mainly to the multicoil pickups and filter preamp.

I had it in my head that i would do my absolute best to get as close as possible with what is available out there. It was not easy...

Bass: Neck is a new Spector Legend 6 neck from factory maple and rosewood with twin trussrods and reinforced. Lovely necks decent price.

Body is QLD maple with a quilted queensland Maple top. This wood is from my state and is spectacular..Known in Oz for being a great guitar wood. Very much like mahogany which Wal is known for using.

Pickups: Rautia Custom Multicoils from Poland. Veijo was great these are such incredible pickups.

Preamp: ACG EQ01. Rare not made anymore. Totally crazy 3 filter preamp took me a week to find a tone but it is spectacular!

Hardwards: Hipshot A brass 17mm. Gotoh tuners. brass nut.

This bass has only been finished a week so still learning but yep it exceeded my expectations of getting me that open and rich tone that Wal and JC is known for and i love so much. I am currently building a video that compares this bass against my SPector and Warwick FNA Jazzman on a tool song.. all do a good job but this bass is so bloody close to the real thing. really really hard to get the dial in balance right.

My pics are not great and it wasnt finished when i took them but it is all I have atm. 93548175_158843525460912_146460124255354880_n.jpg 93655262_173460400446310_5704871408484483072_n.jpg 93548175_158843525460912_146460124255354880_n.jpg 93439107_590595851543196_7474450096814292992_n.jpg
