Show Us Your Non- Warwick Bass Then!

omg I love that Bolin, tell me how it sounds

Sorry, I only just saw the reply to my Bolin

The Bolin is so versatile that I'd struggle to give a definitive brief of its tone! It has the pair of EMGs and the piezo so I can mix and match to get anything from a 'breathy' acoustic bass tone to quite a trad Fender tone. Essentially the one sound it can't do is the trademark Warwick growl... which is just as well  It isn't a slap monster (tone and limited access at the end of the neck) but then again I don't favour that style so no worries for me.

For such a light, thin (edge to edge there is a convex radius like Warwicks) bass it has a very full tone and quite a hot output if both sets of pups are used.

Try one if you get the chance, they may well not replace your Warwick but they make an excellent compliment to one :D

Oh and this is the bass that prompted me to get the Bolin 4... a Bolin 5

Problem was that I just couldn't get the 5 but it had a very similar tone, in fact the piezo might have been a bit sweeter which is why I may have to tweak the internal piezo pots on my 4.

Here's me, with my Tacoma Thunderchief, the only ABG I ever played that can be heard unplugged...

I LOVE my SUB, a truly awesome bass, end of statement.

It's a "W'.

It has a curved body.

And a 2+2 headstock.

But not a Gumby headstock, so ....

It's a Wendler:

The full length pic is of my actual bass,
pic by Wendler. The pic of the concave
carved back is just a generic example,
not my actual ax. Pic also by Wendler.

Since Wickans are such woodpeckers, I
should mention that it's red cedar, with
a pau ferro FB.

I played one and it was awesome. One of the best fenders ever. Struggled a bit with the 6th strings since I'm not used to play those, but the tone is true fender in a very good quality 6 stringed package.

Thanks, Flipper! :)

Well, I followed that Fender link, and
whilst browsing thru Artiste Modelles
I was smackered inna head: The Tony
Franklin P-FL is GONE !
That was such
a cool ax. I twice almost bought it ! I
guess I'll hafta console m'selves with
the EBMM FLs I twice bought instead.

Seems to me, the FL PK, that Fender
is not a True Believer in FL. Very few
models can be had as FL, and mostly
from their Artiste selection. Warwick
and EBMM are my mother load, prolly
cuz they offer FL as a full line option,
a normal choice on every model.

They have the Franklin at Musician's friend too.

Anyone tried a Squier Jazz FL? I saw one on Musician's Friend, only 300 bucks, wonder if it'd be worth pickin' up just to try a FL?

I'd pick over an SX and upgrade through StewMac before getting a Squire.
Just my preference though.

Now how did I miss that ?

Mucho grosso gordo gracias to Tyler.

Now I can almost buy it a third time,
and come home with another EBMM
or Wick ! That Fender TF-FL is soooo
good at selling Wicks and EBMMs ...
not cuz it "pales by comparison" but
cuz it comes so damnt near to being
perfect. It's such a tease.

Acoarst, kewlazitiz it's still an Artiste
Special and so, much as Fender now
is spared The Sharp Stick in the Eye,
they still fall far short of earning the
Philosopher King's Certificate of True
Believership in Fretless Wonderment
.

Fender is simply 'Not At The Table'
with Wick or MM [or GnL].
