Thumb BO VS Streamer LX VS Corvette Std ash active/active

thumb bolt on, streamer lx and corvette std ash is the only warwicks within my price range.

can anyone tell me about the differnces in sound and feel?

some sound clips would be nice too.
 
I have not played the Streamer LX. I have played the Corvette STD and I have a Thumb BO. For me Thumbs are my dream basses and for that reason i have several of them. THe corvettes are nice but I like the compressed sound of the Thumb. I also like the shape a little more. The Corvette STD I like is the Bubinga one not the ash.

If I were you I would try them first and then make a decision.

me... Thumb right away. but many people either love or hate the Thumb's sound so it goes back to you. is what you like.

If. you are sending this from a GC and they have that sale.... I would buy all 3 or 2 into my credit card and then take them home (you got 30 days) to test them at your rig and see which one fits. the one or ones you do not like then return so you can take advantage of those prices. :wink:
 
If it was me it would be between the Thumb BO and the Streamer LX. The standard corvette is nice, but i find that the ash standard, although a fine bass just lacks the finer personalities of the other warwicks.

The streamer LX has a more conventional tone with a warwick twist, its going to be the most verstile of the basses and has a pleasing tone that everyone seems to like. I'd use this bass for anything really as it suits so many music styles. It can do a more conventional slap tone due to the p-pickup and can do more oldskool vintage stuff...well as much as a warwick can, and keep up with a modern tone.

The thumb has a very compressed articulated tone with a lot of low end growl, dig in and in pushes out a really punchy low end tone, slap works very well and you get a modern slap tone with ith, finger style is amazing though, its perfectly voiced to slice through anything and has a really nice warm growl to it with perfect articulation for ghost notes and harmonics sing!

There are clips galore of all the basses in the clips section, just do a search and you'll find loads.
 
In theory, wouldn't the corvette std Bubinga sound alot like the thumb BO? The specs are very similar, and both bodywoods are african hardwoods from the same family. Aside from (very slight) p/u positioning towards the bridge on the thumb BO 4 and body contouring, is the price difference justified? Ovangkol is alot cheaper in the custom shop listings than Bubinga, so the std Bubinga seems like the choice
 
yes its best to tests them all, but theres no dealers in my country, that have streamer lx or thumb bo...

They do sound similar but the pickup position makes a huge difference even when angled a little bit. Its not as exagerated as the 5 string version but its still makes a noticeable change.

polinesa re cool too. The thing is that I think they are discontinued now so if you are after a new bass they would be out of the window but if you are comparing used basses then it could be considered. :wink:
 
They are discontinued but you can get a CS one.There are a lot of used ones out there and they seem to be cheaper then the bubinga versions.

Thumb bo-Typical Thumb tone,but be careful.Some people dont like the balance & feel it has neck dive & a very long neck,can feel heavy.
Corvette std-Gorgeous deep growling tone,good balance,great bass for the $.
Streamer LX- beautifully balanced,very comfy,versatile tones.

Hey Scott!

Thumb BO- like Greg sait has the thumb sound, More aggressive and articulated than Thumb NT. Low mids growl. A bass in your stomach. No low low frequencies, only a lot of punch. Amazing bass

Streamer LX- big fat, pooofy sound I love it a lot. Can sound very aggressive, or very soft. On the modern side...

Corvette STD ash- something like a Fender Jbass on steroids. Nice sound, but more conventional than the first two.

Corvette STD bubinga does not sound like the thumb BO at all. It sounds more like corvette STD ash, but with more mids, and less lows.

Also:

Ergonomically, the Ash Corvette will far and away be the lightest of the three. The 'vette has decent balance, though I prefer the feel of my Streamer LX over a Corvette - one of the reasons I bought it. The Thumb BO has better balance than a NT model, but it is still a Thumb, so the neck will naturally want to gravitate towards a more horizontal position - that's how they're designed.

Tone wise, the Thumb is a love/hate realationship. You really need to play one before you buy it. The 'vette is the safest bet, tone wise, if you can't actually play them first. Knowing what I do now, of these three, the Streamer LX is the only one I'd buy again without playing it first due to: a) Playability; b) Versatility; c) Tone; d) Looks. Good luck!!!
 
Not to sidetrack here, but what about the Proline? How do they compare to a thumb? I have a thumb BO4 and Was thinking about a Proline or a Stage 1, but haven't played either. I've heard stuff on the clips and they sound nice. I want something to compliment the Thumb during my rock playing.
 
I have both a thumb-bo and a proline.They sound completly different the thumb has a tighter sound,the proline line seem's a little more open.The balance of the proline is good and the weight isn't to bad.It's not much more then a ash vett.
 
how is it that a streamer LX is in your price range but not a bubinga corvette?

Not sure if Im allowed to "plug" them but if you're in Denmark then try Thomann.de. German company who I would deem Europe's "local" music shop. They have a 30 day money back deal so you can buy one (or two) and if you dont like it, send it back. To send it back is cheap as chips also if you use their return service.

Im in the UK and have used them for loads of stuff.

Might be worth a look as they have all sort of Warwicks.

Oh, by the way, I'd say go Streamer!
 
check their website, they dont have a streamer lx with 4 strings. only the ltd ones.

since the pickup configuration isnt the same on the 5 string one, im quite sure that they sound different
