I was feeling crazy and left the neck on. I tryed removing the neck a couple months back when working on it and couldn't manage to get the thing off! I think some of the tung oil I used awhile back managed to get down into the neck pocket and cured, securing the neck in place.

I managed to keep the epoxy off of everything but the fretboard, So it all worked out pretty good with only a little bit of a mess :)

Sounds like the BO has turned into a bit of a set neck... I wonder if it affects the tone :D

no. i am pretty sure it is a BO. i oculd be wrong though. It has happened before.

How about refretting the neck on the low strings, and keeping the high strings fretless, or vice versa?

I think he might be onto something here, maybe a fretted B,A and C string and a fretless E,D, and G? hmmmmm
 
I've pondered the idea of that... I don't think I'd ever do it though :P

I'm not sure what else I can do to the bass :P, I'm sure there's alot of useless mods I could do, But I'm thinking about stuff that either makes it look better (IMO) or something that would help me.
 
Make your own bass from scratch... I'm sure you can do it!

Try some seasoned old wood (Brian May used a wooden fireplace, as everyone knows). There's an acoustic guitar maker in UK makes guitars out of old whiskey barrels (That's Fylde acoustics... I've just got one of their guitars... but just made out of "normal" wood). Look for something that'll make good tone wood and might have an interesting pattern on it!

I want to say i read that Manne was given some old whisky barrels to build three instruments, two guitars and a bass. Heard they are pretty sweet but expensive.

Yeh... read that too but couldn't remember the name of the maker. Saw some pics and they looked amazing! I think they must smell rather nice too :wink:
 
Yeah, I've really been thinking about building my own lately. I want to build a short scale bass... 4 string, fretless...

Wenge neck, not sure on the fretboard... maybe purple heart? is there a figured purple heart? and the body would problaby be a wenge back with a walnut core maybe? and possible a figured? purple heart top. and of course matching headstock.

I really don't know what I want.. I know I want fretless, shortscale, 4 string with wenge in it somewhere :P

This is by far the easiest playing and best sounding bass I ever had in my hands!!!
Hopefully you all don't mind me playing a GK rig...

I used to play a GK combo for years, then I sold it becouse it wasn't powerful enough.

But most important thing, Merry Christmas!!!
