Hi, Just a Thumb BO5, from 1998, equipped with Delano's pickups and a GraphTech Piezo system I just installed yesterday.

(on this picture the piezo isn't yet there, and I'm still waiting new pickup screws.



Here's a first quick sound check :

 
Finally time to join the club, after owning mostly Corvette's for years (and a random streamer)

1998 Bolt-On Thumb, bought by the previous owner new in 98 aswell.
Ovangkol body with wenge neck and board.

He's replaced the frets a few years ago, and had the electronics resoldered. So it's been taken care of.
But also played quite a bit, there's a hole at the neck pickup where his thumb used to sit.

How does it sound compared to it's former 34" scale self? Did you change the type/gauge of strings you 're using?

It sounds exactly the same.

I'm still using 45 - 105 D'Addario flatwounds.

Your side dots should be all over the place, but I see them correctly at 3rd and 5th fret, after the conversion. Did the luthier also move the side dots?

He colored the old dots to make them invisible. And I used stick-on dots in the right places. For now they're working fine.
 
Good working Bass with fantastic sound, sadly it is just a 4 String , so i am gonna sell this one for a 5 String.
I really was suprised how lightweight this bass is compared to most of my other basses and especially the corvette 5 string with weighs much mor than the Thumb!

Why not keep it and also buy a 5 string? I have sold many a guitar that I now regret having sold... What you fancy today, may not be what you wish you had again tomorrow...

That is an reoccuring thought of mine, but i definitly can not afford a Thumb 5 without selling some of my Basses at least this Year.
Right now I am moving into another city and as a trainee i am really limited
 
I have had the hots for a Bleached Blonde for some time now, and finally got my hands on this beauty. It was kind of a fiasco, but ended up being a good deal in the end. I bought it on Reverb and, and in addition to it not being in as good cosmetic shape as the seller claimed, the truss-rod was stuck. The action was waaaay too high, with much too much relief in the neck to leave it that way. I am sure the seller was aware of the issue, due to the fact that there was a bunch of graphite powder residue around the truss-rod adjustment screw. After a good bit of effort I was able to get the truss rod working and now it plays nicely and sounds awesome. It looks really nice also, but has a few deep scratches on the back of the neck. I really don't like scratches on the neck where I regularly feel them, but I like this bass so much that I will deal with it. The seller was a real jerk about it, but Reverb forced them to give me a partial refund, or take it back and issue a full refund. If I hadn't liked it so much I would have told the seller where to shove it, just on principle, due to their dishonesty. Amazingly, since the sellers refund offer was less than I wanted ($150), Reverb chipped in the rest by giving me the remainder in Reverb Bucks. So, $75 from the seller and $75 in Reverb Bucks from Reverb. I like Reverb a lot!

I was jamming out on mine last week at band practice. Love how light it is, but still a great tone. Need to replace the nut though. Looks like it has cracked.

It's just the picture I guess, because it isn't cracked.
 
I finally sold my Thumb BO 4, got not as much as i paid for it but enough to probably get my hands on a Thumb BO 5 in an few days with an all Wenge Neck, which I definitly prefer over Ovangkol on a Thumb. Ovangkol for my Corvette is perfect but if I get a Thumb Wenge is a must have for me.
