Any of you guys swapped out your pre for an Aguilar OBP2

I guess I shouldn’t be asking this question after the fact that I had already ordered based on a few reputable recommendations.

I'm sure I'm going to like it, but was wondering if anyone else had some experiences with them….anyone notice if it took away / added to the growl?

Update

I just got this new OBP2 installed last night and I'm going to give it "2 Thumbs Up"

I haven't gotten it cranked up yet, but right of the bat I didn't notice much of a difference from the original pre. It still has all that famous Thumb growl, maybe a little more mids but other than that, not much of a difference...I'm pretty happy with it.

Slap was the reason I wanted that bass. I made a mistake with my Streamer getting the double buck instead of the jazzman p/u configuration. The $$ sounds amazing fingerstyle, but the size of the pickups inhibits my slapping. Don't regret having it but maybe just got too enthralled with the range of sounds I could get out of it.

I'm not certain what's next. Maybe another Thumb. Probably another Thumb. Possibly a Nobby though.

Might need to recover from holiday spending first.

I hear ya on the $$ and restricted slap space. The only bummer about the passive MEC jazz pup; is that it is horribly noisy. Like really bad. As has been widely discussed over the years. I'm usually on the bridge pup 100% with Lacie.

May I suggest a Nordstrand split-coil for the neck position.

Indeed yes, and for good reasons. A split J in the neck position on this bass will add loads of tonal expression, with zero noise.

Does anyone have any experience with putting a Darkglass Tone Capsule in a Thumb? The local bass store had a great offer on it on black Friday, so I bought it more or less on a whim :) Considering putting it into either my Thumb NT 5 fretless or my Korean PS 5 fretless.

Tone Capsule – Darkglass Electronics

I don't know much about electronics or soldering, though, so I'll either get a savvy friend or a tech at the shop to help me do the actual installation.

I guess the best method would be to just try it and see. Darkglass creates fascinating devices. Perhaps it's time to learn electronics basics? It's really simple stuff. You can go practical. Like playing the bass without knowing too much music theory, hehe.
