Hey guys...

I currently have this bass...



Warwick Corvette Standard 5string, Active Pickups and Preamp. This bass has been my baby, and is in pristine condition.

I'm buying this bass tomorrow too!! Its his bubinga brother!!



Its body looks in good nick, apart from some wear above the pickups. Hardware looks pretty ratty however.

Now....to my plan

After cleaning up the bubinga body, removing dings and sanding out the marks above the pickups, I plan to take both basses apart, and put the neck, hardware, active pickups and electronics of the swamp ash bass onto the bubinga body. Then put the older black hardware, the passive pickups etc and the older neck onto the swamp ash body. Essentially, I'm simply swapping the bodies (wood only).

Is this a good idea?? What problems might occur? Thumperton has mention that necks are designed to the basses bodies, so swapping them may not be as easy as i thought...
 
It might be a great idea.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the two basses must have strictly identical bodies, so I don't see why the neck wouldn't fit !
 
I'd say you're all good except for the neck. I wouldn't swap those if I didn't absolutely have to mate. ~M~

the idea is basically to get the bubinga one into a bit of a show off piece, and the swamp ash one as the gig beater bass!!

i prefer the grain on the swamp ash neck at the moment which is why i wanna swap them
 
Ovangkol does have that tendency doesn't it? I've briefly thought about trying the Thumb's neck on the Ltd Corvette because I like the flaming on the Thumb's neck... Haven't got up the stones yet to do it. :lol: ~M~
 
The neck pocket should be the same, but you'll know it only after trying.
Before swapping hardware and electronics, be sure that necks are really interchangeable

Basically its for aesthetic reasons. The bubinga wood looks a lot nicer than the swamp ash, yet everything else on the swamp ash bass is nicer - the neck has a much nicer grain, and all the hardware is in much better condition.

Basically it was to put all the nicest bits into one bass, and all the older/less sexy looking bits onto the other....

I've decided im gonna clean the bubinga one up a bit and leave as is for a while first before i do any changes. At least the changes I wanna make can be fully reversed if need be.
 
Our necks are matched by 1/10 mm. So there is a chance you might need to sand the neck a little bit to get it to fit the other body. But at the same time there is a chance that you might not need to do so.

If I were you, since the neck are the same on both basses, I would try to keep them like they are and just swap hardware and electronics.
 
Ian,what I meant was that the bolt pattern is drilled for each neck individually.The neck pockets will be very close to being a match,but the screw holes are drilled through that neck into the body for a better surface contact & better stability.The screw holes might not align perferctly as they do now.

I'm digging that bubinga... One of the best bubinga corvettes I've seen yet :)
 
yes it looks like bubinga pommelle actually....i've just picked it up!! going to work on it now and get it set up!
 
well, i've given them both a clean up and took some pics, excuse camera phone quality...

The bubinga model is beautiful, plays like a dream. I'm gonna get the other one set up to match is as closely as they can!! I'm still undecided about swapping bits etc around on them...I think they'll stay as is for a while!

Nice pics man. That bubinga almost looks like bubinga pommelle.
