I have succumbed to the dark digital side and ordered a Quad Cortex today.
Not playing in a band or gigging means I have different needs as a musician now and I want to get creative.

In time I will try to make my old Trace Elliot Hexa Valve bass amp available as a cloud download.
Same for the Black Finger compressor and Mesa V-Twin tube preamp - if those are not available already.

That's cool - I'm very interested in hearing your experience after you've played with it for some time!

I'd love to try one but the price is far away from my budget, tbh.

Will let you know. The big plan is building bi-amped rigs and getting Chris Squire and dUg Pinnick tones out of it, along with some more regular stuff.
Hoping the built in Diamond compressor will be good enough to replace my Cali 76cb. Will keep using my analog bass wowee-wah pedal for wah.

Actually I do have something I'm waiting on-- preordered back in March but will not arrive until around mid-late-July due to overseas supply issues--

A Steinberger XT-2DB which has a drop D (adjustable down to B) lever for the E string- I've seen some good reviews/demos on YouTube. It will be another convenient option for close quarters playing on neighbor's boats as well as more convenient to lug up and down the companionway-

Yuck. Soz. Taste being a bastard. Looks way too eighties for me.

I bought s.th. interesting from Reverb: Japanese "Freedom Custom Guitar Research" built P-bass, they used a Fender (JP) neck. Apparently, the company is quite famous.

I hated the original carbon fiber ones at first sight but not because they looked too 80's (after all it was the 80's), but because they looked plug ugly. Not only that, but everybody famous in 80's pop and new wave were playing either the guitar or the bass. And I hate fads, and sometimes even new things like headless guitars-

In retrospect because I didn't see it at the time, I can respect Guy Pratt for his use of the Headless One for the good sound and skillful playing. Allan Holdsworth also made good use of the GL 2 Steinie- in his case it provided the sound he had been looking for a decade or more.

It wasn't until decades later that I actually heard one and was impressed with the sound. And now I think they look pretty cool, even elegant, and quite avant-garde.

The only guitars/basses I think might look 80's are Explorers and V's because a lot of metal bands played them (the SynthAxe also for the more esoteric of us). Big hair, which I liked on women. But couldn't stand the fashion- Just watch Bowie's Blue Jean video -

I like my ebony SG but some might argue that they look too 70's -- ha!!
