Hot bird! I saw this model up for sale here in Germany too and nearly pushed the button. I could resist because all dams would break if I start to buy non Warwick basses. Ok, I could not let pass the Alembic 8 string. But that is another story.Oh, please make it stop! A 1985 Aria Pro II ZZB Deluxe Made in Japan--

Oh, yes, regarding the Alembic - perfectly forgivable!Hot bird! I saw this model up for sale here in Germany too and nearly pushed the button. I could resist because all dams would break if I start to buy non Warwick basses. Ok, I could not let pass the Alembic 8 string. But that is another story.
Cool! Give us a feedback!
Right. Was excited the whole day, but ofc DPD had to put me last on the list. Got it at 16:30ish… unpacked (didn’t make video, sorry I was too excited).Cool! Give us a feedback!![]()
Well… wanted to show you how Photon worked on rehearsal, but the Ampeg cab + cab simulation combination completely ruined my tone. Didn’t have time to fiddle around with it. Was so bassy that the ground was shaking too much (just check the videoRight. Was excited the whole day, but ofc DPD had to put me last on the list. Everything on this pedal is amazing so far. The tuner is a bit confusing, you have to “decrypt” what note you are tuning to. Preloaded presets from Darkglass were good, but too distorted for my taste. Found about 4-5 different tones now that I really like, including one that pretty much sounds like my Tech21 VT.
Compressor is very nice - it was one of the reasons why I wanted to go back to Darkglass from my Tech21 VT - I don’t drive and always need to be portable and light, adding another pedal to the occasion would be a pain for me. It gives you really good feel, the iOS app lets you adjust it to your taste very quickly.
Saving presets is a great feature. This will expand my power on rehearsals/stage drastically from just “switching VT on&off” to different distortions and clean sounds. You can save presets in cloud and load them very quickly back to your pedal - if you have two bands for instance, you can just load your usual to pedal before gig/rehearsal and you are good to go. The app lets you name them, so you won’t get confused
IRs are powerful. I liked only two - DG 4x10 and DG 8x10. There are plenty to choose from, this is only what I had in the app, definitely will sit down and try to go over them further. Some of them really boost lows to the point that you have to decrease output level quite a bit. They can also completely change your tone - 4x10 cab, Alpha distortion with blend and drive on half and gentle compressor created that VT sound for me, but if you switch IR off, it sounds completely different. Feels a bit overwhelming when you are messing around, because you can find a great tone but you want to improve it just a little bit, then suddenly it gets lost after a couple of small adjustments. Thought myself a little rule to save preset immediately when I like it and if I find an “upgrade”, update the save.
Bluetooth connectivity really helps with practicing, not even mentioning headphones output, which has separate volume control. Level knob turns into instrument gain when using headphones - so you can adjust volume of the music on your iPhone/android and bass separately, then adjust the overall volume. Really nice and handy!
Recording interface - works perfectly fine with my iPhone which I’m happy about. Last thing I want is always dragging laptop with me to record things. There are multiple outputs when you try to record - I use just garage band as it’s simple and free, when you select inputs you can choose from channels 1,2,3,4, then 1+2 and 3+4. I found that the best was just using one of those first 4. There are some output settings in iOS app that let you change what each output sends. Can separate distortion, clean signal, IR, etc. when I tried to record 1+2, it had clean signal in left and distortion in right.
Overall - very happy with it. Will be replacing my Tech21 VT.
will post some samples tomorrow, just having whiskey now and chilling![]()
Some messing around - pics don’t correspond to the actual sound, I used Tech21 only at the very beginning, then been trying stuff on AOP.
