Good you haven't paid yet !
I already had paid! But through Reverb, using PayPal. That a***ole RETURNED the payment and wrote some bullshit that Reverb would have problems with their payment system and they would contact me. Next thing was an SMS with a link to a phishing site to enter my IBAN. Yes ofc, IBAN my ass! I suggest to pick up the bass, no more answers from the seller. Next thing was that he reposted the same add again.

Lots of scam (and scum) in these on-line shops ! Can't be careful enough, and if the deal is too good ... it sometimes can't be true

I have fallen madly in love with the Bass Mono Synth since buying it late last year.

S0- I'm planning to strip the current worn finish of this mid-80's Gibson Explorer bass down to bare wood, then refinish in Alpine White lacquer and add gold hardware after it arrives-- and probably some body and neck binding as well--

Thinking about putting a pair of gold-plated Lollar Thunderbird style soap bars in it, given they're the same size--

Sorry to hear that Hardy... That was scam city.

Funnily enough, I purchased something on Saturday (will post photos) from a nice guy who specialises in buying and selling old / used instruments (nothing new). In talking with him, he said he refused to do any transactions with PayPal anymore as 50% of the time it is a scam (scammer pays for it, claims the bass/guitar was never received (or says the shipper was the scammer and they received an empty box), gets refunded by PayPal and keeps the guitar/bass). This happened to him 3 times.

The local "ebay", which only sells within the country, has removed PayPal and other online platforms as a payment method, it only offers bank transfer, postal money transfer or cash upon pickup. That's it. And if there is a problem with a bank/postal payment, you have to attack the person via the police. It really has reduced the scammers to almost nil. That and you must verify your postal address (receive a letter with a code) and a mobile phone number in order to sell anything on the platform.

One trick I use is asking if I can come and play the guitar before purchase, if they say no, then that likely means there is something wrong. Not always though, one time I was looking at an inexpensive Les Paul Junior. Contacted the seller and he said I could come and look at it "no problem". Got there and the neck was twisted like a corkscrew. He feigned ignorance. This was not mentioned in the ad, so anyone buying it and receiving it would be able to claim their money back as the platform has a strict "not as described" policy...
