I know its not gonna be very loud, but how loud is the starbass on its own?

hi, the volume pot on my LX5 makes a very audible scratching sound when turned up or down while the bass is plugged into the amp. pulling it (it's a push/pull pot) makes an even louder 'pop'. what can be done to remedy this? thanks.
