That would be cool! I was just checking out "Rain" by DL, I was thinking mmm cello nice, then came *electric* cello. Will you be playing bass on that gig? That vid has keys and no bass, and I remember you were fiddling with keys at some point...

hey... yeah not sure yet... most *probably* bass simply because I'm afraid to ship my Moog Voyager!!!!!!!

wow .. I'm glad I didn't see this before, and thank you Greg for handling it so quickly. I normally don't make statements like this, but I have met Rob on several occassions back in the day and while I doubt he would still remember me, at one time he knew me by name. Having had the privledge of standing within feet of him watching him play, I can tell you, not only does the funk just seem to ooze from him, he is crazy fast and very percise. Alot of guys can hide a lot of sloppiness inside extremely fast lines and lots of distortion, but I can tell you, that is not the case with Rob. He loves the bass and works incredibly hard at it. While I thought and still do think Suicidal was a great band, I still think Roberts best work was with infectious grooves. Violent and funky ...

cowtipper, I am still a little butt hurt by what you said to me, (don't bother to ask me people), but what you said about Robert was so uncalled for and frankly, clearly very ignorant. I am glad to see you did appologize for it and hope that you really take Gregs warning to heart and show a little more respect in the future. But, I do have to admitt, I am far from perfect myself sometimes.... one mention of a certain name can send me straight off the deep end...

Wow! A lot of great bassists mentioned and quite a few I'll have to have a listen to. From the list, although I grew up with Bootzilla and was very heavily influenced by him, he isn't the reason I got hooked on the Warwick sound. Now, I'm sure this player isn't an endorser but the person who got me into the Warwick sound was Dougn Wimbish when he first started with Living Colour. After Muzz left I was gutted. When I heard Doug took his place I decided I should probably give them a listen and see where they were going. The song "Nothingness" did it for me. I heard them play it live during the summer it was released on MTV and during that performance he was playing a Warwick instead of one of his Spectors. That sound really stuck with me. It's taken me this long to get a Warwick (a Rockbass but darnit it's my first 'wick) and I'm glad I did. They really are very VERY versatile but I'm getting off topic. Doug introduced me to the sound and all of you are introducing me to one of the warmest communities I've been a part of. Thank you everyone....
 
Randy, Infectious Groove did it for me too. Punk It Up was WOOOOOOW! Probably the first slap line I've ever learned :-)
 
Hey CliffHNZ, welcome, nice to hear how you got to the 'sound of wood' and you are right about this forum, it is nice to be here.

Edit: @Lex, i am now a true fan, about the delicatessen album: these are super grooves and it is exactly my style of music and bass playing, hats of for you!

I have to agree with Florin, but I would vote for James Lomenzo because I like his style and the bands he has played with.

I voted for Jack Bruce cos way back when he was one of the big names that made me aware of Warwick, and is the reason I had to get me a fretless Thumb. But can I also throw in a couple of names not on the list: Bakithi Kumalo, who everbody has heard even if they didn't know his name, and Ewan Vernal, who played some fantastic groovy lines on a Streamer and a Thumb back in the late '80s.
 
So I just noticed the poll. I chose Dirk. Why? His smooth yet funky playing and great technique basically made Incubus what they were, and his work with WNC is inspiring as well. Very imaginative bass lines.
 
Hey Samuel!, so you are also influenced by Dirk, yes!, i agree to what you are saying about Incubus, they are not what they used to be with Dirk, i bought A Crow Left of the Murder... but played it only a few times, much less than the older albums. but then again i dont find Ben Kennedy a bass player.
 
LOL dudes... it's "Ben Kenney"... and he's a great player!
 
He's good, don't get me wrong, but for Incubus, Dirk was a better fit.

As per the name, I was checkin' to see if you were paying attention. You passed. :d
 
oh well, i still like Dirk better, but that my opinion. ;)
