Hey Mowman,

It is a good question, and the answer is not easy.

The thumb has not those deep lows you are used to hear on most basses. Also some high midrange the "vocal" zone is missing.
The true, native voice of a thumb bass is a Jaco sound on steroids.
So you would think that there is not enough low end...
Well the thumb is actually low voiced. You feel it in the stomach. I find it to be centered around 250 Hz...
Usually a normal bass when you play it harder, it starts to "scream" on higher frequencies. The thumb just keeps sounding low, only stronger.

now, THAT's a description that's helptul.
unfortunately, there are no clips in the clipsection, where someone is playing a thumb the normal way, then digging in harder.....

And what else do you need? :)

Anyone here who has opinions of the thumb BO fretless? I'm in need of a proper fretless, and right now it's the strongest candidate.

EDIT: The four-string model that is.

Hello everyone! This is my 1st message on the Warwick Forums! I've been watching all the action in here from for quite sometime while patiently waiting for my very own Thumb :) So here it is, my 'pledge of allegiance' to the Club :) IT arrived 2 days ago, brand new Thumb BO (2009).
 
Hehe, thanks! :) It looks better by the day :) After the second wax session it really started to shine and if my eyes are not playing tricks on me, I'd say the wood already starts to change colour to a slighter darker brown ;)
I'm amazed about the way the wax works on the wood, I never expected to be that critical and to be able to actually see how it affects the looks of the bass ;)

is that really a 2009? Why would their be fret dots on it?
 
The serial number is: B 149193 09 (that means February 2009...right?)

The fretboard dots were a custom shop option, so technically the bass is a custom shop - with the appropriate logo on the back of the headstock and all...but since it's just a standard Thumb BO with dot inlays, I decided to just present it like a normal bass, and not a CS one :)

Here is my 99' Thumb BO. I have installed a Aguilar OBP-3 3 band preamp in her :). Don't think I will be buying a different model ever again. Love thumb basses so much! Cannot get enough of that growl ;)). Hopefully be getting my Thumb BO 5 Broad neck soon ;)
