The Heads Up Thread

He'll be lucky to get $4K, and even that is a stretch. Maybe I'm wrong because I'm biased, but I wouldn't own a bass that old, I don't care who played it or whom it's been on stage with.

It quite clearly says "First to cross the U.S. border. Buy or make an offer!!", so I think the price was set ridiculously to garner attention and have people make offers.

Not a bad tactic..

I talked to the seller on the phone about a year ago when I was looking to trade him a bass I own for one he had listed on Craigslist (he lives near me), and he mentioned the white Streamer. Either way he seemed cool and very knowledgeable about Warwicks.

I think it's worth a lot to someone who is just a die hard Warwick person with a lot of money, but to me I couldn't own it because the bass was stolen sometime in the 80s. I just wouldn't want to come in and say HEY I OWN A BASS THAT WAS STOLEN FROM WARWICK!

Either way, cool bass, interesting history.

Deductive reasoning and common sense dictates that if someone lists a Buy It Now price (of any amount) along with a Make an Offer option (on a site that only uses money and credit as its only sources of consideration, meaning you can't throw in a trade of something else of value as consideration) that they are pretty much set on getting somewhere close to the Buy It Now price. True, he could be using it to draw attention, but if his intent is to settle for something absurdly less than $10K he is scarring away most of his potential buyers with a high listing. And anyone looking to "invest" in a $10K instrument, or anyone with any common sense for that matter, will investigate the appraisal and fair market value of such an item. Yes there is always someone willing to spend more than others to get what they want, and a lot of folks here have spent well in excess of $10K on gear through the years but the fair market value is dictated by the masses, not the singular exceptions.

He's diggin' for gold hoping to run into a mad collector.

If I hadn't just brought the EBS valvedrive I might have considered that

BUBINGA Stage II from 1988!

I'm pretty sure that's a beautiful piece of Afzelia Pommelé.

Seller reassured thru e-mail me that it is bubinga. Strange world...
So it is Afzelia-turned-brown-over-time right?

He is asking too much for it btw. 2200 euro.

It wouldn't be the first time a SSII owner thinks it's made out of Bubinga.

We've had several threads about SSII's bodywood here in the past.

The sole Bubinga SSII I can think of is a CS model (rather new, made in the 2000s).

Not necessarily turned brown over time the Afzelia Pom' is naturally quite a reddish/brown wood and the bass pictured is defo not Bubinga... in fact I think the woods of these early SSII basses has been discussed on the forum many times, a quick search will likely throw up quite a few similar answers. ;)

Oh and IMHO 2200 is too much but what price if you MUST have 'that' bass?
