So- I began to see the need for one of these- at least for my guitar pedalboard-

Arrived this evening... And it is throwing shortcomings in many mixes at me while listening to some of my fave albums through it.
The loudness war is very audible through this baby which I will consider a blessing not a curse.

What is very handy about this unit is you can switch to alt monitoring so I can A/B between my ADAM active monitors and the old hifi transmissionline speakers from TDL at the push of a button.
I have yet to test the mic pre's but the TLM103 is eagerly awaiting that event already...

The unit does run pretty hot so I am thinking of throwing it in its own 3u of private rackspace tomorrow. Probably not a good idea to keep it here right on top of the ART graphic EQ.

Bottom line: The SSL 18 is definitely an upgrade from the Roland Studio Capture I was using before.

Software to control it is pretty straightforward and comfy. Two inputs on the front can be used as an instrument input if you want to do everything inside the box.
Me I prefer to use the output of my Quad Cortex to keep myself from endlessly trying different amp models and/or effects.
The Artisanal way (Picking a tone and being creative with that while actually playing music rather than afterwards) makes me feel more at home.

So I got this in addition to my 80's NS-2 for the channel B and bypass paths for my new pedalboard-

And these two make more room for powering given that the Voodlabs Pedalpower 3 Plus has 13 500 ma 9volt outputs in addition to a single 250 ma output for a total of 14 which can easily accommodate two and 3 to one output cables for more pedals with moderate consumption needs-

Aha you snatching that one up. Saw it advertised earlier this week. I am no longer interested in buying bass guitars tho but I still like to check now n then.
Replacing frets won't be a huge project.

A little after the fact but I've found that if I need 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch stereo cable adapting it is best to get cables made for that. My recent experience with snap on adapters was disappointing- while they worked at first, over time they would only transmit one channel. An exception being the 1/8 to 1/4 inch adapters that came with my AKG headphones which they were of a much more reliable thread-on design.

So I got two each of the ten foot long cables to mate my headphone jacks on the TC Electronic RH-450 to the Yamaha Subwoofer feeding my two mid-range monitor speakers. Something I must do to keep the neighbors on the 8th floor below me happy! The other ten footer will go to my Yamaha Katana 50 headphones jack to help keep levels under control though I've yet to get any complaints about my guitar amps.

And to accommodate the Yamaha THR5 practice amp sitting on the desk I got a four foot adapter cable to enhance the sound by going through the Yamaha monitor. system if I wish-

Gosh- last but not least, here is the Katana 50 and control pedal GA-FC EX which I arrived about ten days ago- btw I got both at a good discount as open box/demo units on eBay by an authorized dealer-

Got this because it weighs about half of the Mesa Boogie's 5:25's 45 pounds and could better produce good tones at sane volume levels, the Mesa being difficult to get good tones at bedroom levels, even with an attenuator. The Katana contains a number of programmable effects accessible via the foot controller in case I don't want to lug a massive pedal board to a small or impromptu gig Also the Katana has a headphones jack and a line out (to slave a second amp) that the Mesa lacked. The Mesa is a great amp but not for my current high-rise abode.

Quick note on the foot controller- it takes up to two expression pedals, which I'm using the Moog EP-2 seen in the foreground-

Depends. It's about 150-200 euro to get the frets replaced, and that's quite a sum of money.
