Seems I have a deal with the seller: Ortega D2-4 fretless from 2012.

Any thoughts on this one? OK, not a Warwick but the 'grandfather' - keen for the challenge if I'll get a deal.

I'm not sure if there's enough controls on that bass...

Try to relax brother H. Post offices are going postal. Everyone in Deutschland is buying their shit online these days.

In the meantime, have a look at these videos that made me decide to pull the trigger on an NYC 5.
I am kind of amazed with how growly and phat sounding these things are. Much more so then the Fender Jazzes are. Bring it on!

    Demos:

    Review by a nice Deutsch-head:

The one I am getting is also from 2007.

By digging really deep on the web I found out there were 4 different models of the NYC empire: Standard, Deluxe, Standard 24 and Deluxe 24. The regular models have 21 frets, the 24 24 (duh). So far I have seen ash body+maple fretboard with 70's pickup placement and alder body+rosewood fretboard with 60's pickup placement. The Deluxe have a Fodera bridge, the Standard Gotoh. All have a Mike Pope designed preamp and either SD or Aero pickups. Neck and body were built in Japan, bass was assembled, set up and inspected in Brooklyn NY by the regular Fodera crew. In earlier models oddities may exist. Development on this line started in 1993.

And yes, I will still love my Dolphin Pro1, too. Different beast altogether!

Some killer players and tone in those vids! Love that smooth grind in the mids that you get with jazz style basses.

I am hoping I'm good enough to be qualified for playing a Fodera.
Somehow knowing that a couple of Nirvana songs will be played on it besides my attempts of sounding jazzy makes me feel rather smirk.

The red one with gold hardware looks the best out of all of them really, a transparant pickguard without screws would really complete it!
