Well - i would say:
Most people just don't know how different basses can look like. Guys that have never seen a Thumb or any other Warwick before are only used to pretty Fender'ish shapes. It's the same with a lot of other boutique guitars and basses.
Almost every single one I have seen, had a pretty bad "first taste" - but you get used to. Like with russian composers

The 4 string has the original Thumb design; the "new" Thumb 4 has a slightly different body shape........... :!:

it's all in the eye of the beholder I guess.

I've never had anyone tell my any of my Warwicks are ugly. I'm ususally worried about people getting their drool on them.

i honestly couldn't stand the looks of neither the corvette or fortress at first. but now i'm a proud owner of both models, and i think they're a perfect blend of ergonomics and stunning looks.

now i'f only i could find a used 'vette HotRod 5str.
and a big heap of money.
