The Nike shoes that are selling around here all come from China.

and these are not rip-off's. They're honest-to-God Nikes.

Did H.P Wilfer patent the form of the thumb? I did some patent work at my company and you can actually patent design forms. Those basses definitely has an influence from the thumb...

I suddenly had to think of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby", which is based on Queen's "Under Pressure". From Wikipedia:

Vanilla Ice drew controversy by claiming that he owed no royalties for sampling "Under Pressure", citing one minor alteration to the bass line. Although no lawsuit was ever filed, the rapper supposedly settled out of court, and songwriting credits were made to members of Queen and to Bowie.

When I see these Rebec Guitars, I see the bridge that was used on the first streamers. Am I right?

This has got to be one of the most blatant ripoffs of the Thumb Bass that I've seen yet.

I don't know how closely a bass can be copied before it turns into a court case. And this may depend largely on if certain patents have expired and the once-patented and protected idea can therefore become public domain.

The number of F*nder copies floating around is pretty amazing, but then again these were basses that were originally designed in the 1950's and Leo F*nder's patents have probably expired. ('bet you didn't know Leo had only one eye.)
