Warwick SSII with Afzelia Pommele body: off the shelf bass ?

Guys,

I don't care much for Streamers, but was wondering the following: Oliver mentioned recently that Warwick will be having Afzelia Pommele soon.........
Now, Warwick switched some years ago from regular Bubinga to Bubinga Pommele for the Thumb NT..........so should Warwick do that with the Streamer Stage II as well: going from regular Afzelia to Afzelia Pommele ?? I personally consider the Thumb and Streamer as THE two archetype Warwick basses, and feel that they will pair as a "unity" by both basses having Pommele bodies (psychological thingy)............
Of course, you can always get it CS made, but I think it would be cooler if it were an "off the shelf" bass........

Let Warwick know what you think !!
 
I voted yes but I think we shouldn't be too hasty. Has anyone here even seen Afzelia Pommele before? But if it's even half as awesome as I imagine I'd say Warwick should go for it.

I love the SSIIs but I think that Afzelia is a bit too plain for it. It is a really awesome bass that deserves a pretty unique and even better looking slab of wood, no offense to regular Afzelia though. :D

Agree,

one concern is however the price: I believe SSII is already quite expensive as it is...............so Pommele should crank up the price considerably...............
 
that's what i always thought..azfelia sounds really good, but lookwise it's kinda plain, and i don't really like the color :?

with some figuring, i'm sure azfelia would look beautiful :D
 
It's purely aesthetic so it doesnt affect the tone at all,but it sure can look good.I think bacteria gets into the tree & after it's been dried it leaves behind a pattern.

No, Afzelia Pommele will NOT be offered on the standard issue Streamer Stage II. Afzelia Pommele is such a rare wood, almost impossible to get in the market, that we will make available only through the custom shop.
 
Too bad. Do you have any pictures? I coouldn't even find any information on the wood on the net so I don't even know what it looks like.

I have an early 88 Stage 2 and it is actually Azfelia Pommele, so probably they started procucing them that way. My 89 Stage 2 has a regular Azfelia Body.

Do you want to know the really sick part?

For what it cost to get the Dry Rot fixed... I could have bought a Thumb NT... how sad is that :(
