Warwick Corvette FNA Jazzman 5 - Sound To Thin

Like I said, even I had no trouble recording with it on good or crappy equiptment and indoors it sounds great. I only had problems when I went outside with an amp too small for the place. For me, my issues with this bass probably has more to do with my lack of experience. After a few months not playing it at all I find myself picking it up more to practice with. DR nickel low riders or GHS bass boomers sound good on it.

I had a 2002 LTD FNA Jazzman and thought it was too thin (and no low end character), but I figured it was the walnut body. I'm surprised to hear this about the production model...
 
As far as the YouTube goes maybe the 4 strings sound better than the 5's? Maybe he changed his preamp? Maybe if he had to EQ his rig to bang heads with 2 Marshall half stacks and a drummer that hits hard like I have to it would sound different... who knows. My Jazzman has less thump than my active/active CS ash Standard in side by side testing. I think the maple cap adds to the mids more than people realize which is why I am no longer interested in the ProLine model. It sounds great playing alone with a small amp but doesn't have the same punch with a big amp and a full band. That's what I do know.
 
I think the bass player for the Sick Puppies plays an FNA which imo,sounds great,not thin at all.They play pretty big venues & her rig isnt very complicated.Just sayin guys.
 
Norwood Fisher plays a FNA afaik. That's usually the sound I associate with the FNA. Low mid, thick tone. Not exactly deep basses, but not thin either. Sounds Thumb-ish in a way... Warwick I guess :)

Great bass player... and he uses several effects including a Dunlop Crybaby 105Q Bass Wah, Akai SB1 Deep Impact bass synth, Pigtronix OFO Disnortion, Pigtronix EP-1 Envelope Phaser, Electro-Harmonix Bassballs. My comment refers to just the stock bass. It's just my own opinion based on owning an FNA Jazz and other Warwicks and an Alembic.
 
Ok, if this bass sounds good in a small venue and in studio, can't the goodness be amplified for larger sets? I know room acoustics vary but amps and speakers should be able to compensate given enough power, yes? Also, I gotta praise the B string on this bass. The passive front pickup gives it voice and growl without "boominess" even in the upper reg. I would love to try this bass with an 8/10 stack with a real amp.
 
I use an Ampeg 4Pro and two Avatar B410Neo cabinets stacked. I used to use Ampeg PR410HLF cabinets but they didn't cut it on the B string like the Neo's do. Go figure.... 56 ounce ceramic magnets Vs. 7 ounce neo magnets! The resulting 810 stack does its job well but I still tend to keep the Standard (ash) out if its case more than the Jazzman.
 
if it works fine in studio and in small venues, then It is likely that it is your amp that is not cutting it in the other situations, not your bass...
 
Unfortunately I don't have other situations :oops: as I'm not gigging. It's such a great bass and I'm just trying to figure it out. You are all very helpful and patient, thanks. Anyone have gig success story with this bass?
 
I have a friend who is an excellent player who used to gig it exclusively and it sounded amazing in his hands...

This setup is so versatile, I think you can get nearly any tone you want out of it if you just know how to get there...

hello there, i was just browsing the forum looking for some answers about my new acquired Streamer LX Jazzman, it is on built in the year 2000 and i am curious: is this bass equiped with the SD preamp?

Uhhhhh,

can't you just look in the control cavity ?? Aren't the Jazzman and LX different models ?? Sorry, I'm a Streamer n00b. :oops:

thanks for the pictures man. :D First thing: LX Jazzman [is] a bass. No doubt I've forgotten this in a couple of weeks....... :oops: :lol:
Second thing, the electronics: wow..........not a single text whatsoever ?? If I had to guess, I'd go with SD, because the layout and colours appear different from what I've seen on Warwicks (with MEC). But that's not really a good argument...............I only know that from the 2006 pricelist, it is an option for the FNA Jazzman to choose from standard MEC pickups/preamp or SD pickups/MEC preamp............. :? So.............I don't know............But no doubt your question will be answered within a day. :D Cheers man. :D

that looks to be an FNA, not a jazzman (no jazz pick up)

nevermind it is an FNA. sorry about that, i think your Thinness problem is an EQ problem, try getting an EQ pedal that would really help
