Transforming an Rockbass Corvette 5 into ............ ?

Hi my friends :)
Shortly you can follow another total ripping of a Bass.
The Star from this project is an 2007 Rockbass Corvette 5 Basic active, in fugly glossy Honey Violin.

ATM i'am not exactly sure how the Body will transform.
It depends a little how i capture the wood under the thick glossy coat.

Facts for the new build up: almost all GOOOOOOOLD-Hardware

Haaaaaa. another thread I'll want to follow closely. Just received my p-bass kit, thought of you :-)

Yup, fugly honey violin, dat's for sure, but the fretboard has a nice figuring.
So, veneer on the head to hide the Rockbass logo... Going for a matching Headstock and veneer the body, too ?
I personnaly would go for a "Classic Vibe" on this one. Olympic White or something like that, a Pickguard covered with the same veneer you have on the headstock.
For the bridge, a Schaller 3D would be great, but a bit pricey, especially for a 5er. I'm going for a String-thru for my Precision. I think it might be a good idea for your 5er.

Browsing thru eBay, you'll find plenty, I'm sure. I found this :

no the finish will not be lacquered.. more in direction classy tobacco brown or perhaps dark-brown-red, if the wood is ready for 3D sculpting.
For that i have buyed the Danish Oil Matte.. i like the noble matte finish of Wooden Wicks :)

MAtching Headstock not, because the verneer is maple, because the neck is maple too.
At home without speacial vaccuum mashines it's impossible to verneer a corvette corectly, because it's to curvy...and for adding a top i have no space nor band saw :(

For Alder the grain on this Vette is very nice, especially the backside is superbe..

Trying to sculpt out the grain with an wire wheel an Drill.
The new Bridge is the original GOLD 1-piece Bridge from Warwick, that i have buyed... a Schaller 3D would be nice in gold, but for the 5 Stringer it costs more, that the entire Vette has cost me ;).
 
Tobacco brown is great, yes.
Sculpt the grain ?
Can't you sand it ? Or maybe find a guy to sand it ? (a paint shop or maybe a surface treatment company ? )Although I *think* it works with as, maybe not alder.

Anyway, can't wait to see how it turns out.
 
i want it to make it at my own....you know that i am passionate for refurbishing :D

i will test the wiresanding under the position from the bridge, if that fails, there are enough material there to sand away the failure.

of curiousity i have ask an surface company..because a Guitar/bass body is delicate no way that they thread it under 100-150 Euros for Glass-Blasting/Sandblasting...that is way too much for an old Vette.

Always those who say "NI!" to gold hardware :P

I definitely suggest that he shalt go for whatever he desires :) Gold hardware can look cool! :D
 
So, where you at ?
Headstock plate removed ? Veneering done ? Sanding ?
 
hooooooooooooooooooo i must work hard this week ;)
next monday i have 2 weeks Holidays, so enough time to start :D

ATM only doing small things like polishing frets, polishing/treating fretboard wood/ tinting Neck... all small things that can be interrupted ;) the Verneering is small, but i dont want to verneer if i have pressure to must go work ;)

i will rest with the black headstock thingy and verneer over the black..thats the reason, because i asked, if the black thingy is glued with wood glue or not... the black will make an nice contrast fron the verneer to the neck wood....
the verneer is only 0,25 mm thick, so enough space for the nut and the Tuners
 
the verneer is only for the headstock and is quilted/knotty Maple. the COlor will be dark Golden/brownish to harmonize with the golden Tuners

which color the body at final, i will see next week when i ripped of the thick glossy Poly from the body

what i have learned during my previous refinishes is to be NOT IMPATIENCE :D
 
...update:
during cutting the verneer and measuring, the old JAN II is broken :D ...now i have ordered a brass nut (but not the Warwick Brass Nut)
 
The JAN 3 Brass is not that expensive anymore, so if that one is not to your liking it is not that uch to upgrade. I will upgrade my stage 1 to a JAN 3 brass, might have a JAN 3 tedur going spare.
 
Da problem with da Jan1 is that u alwayz first have to detune ur stringz (to da max) before ur able to reach da screw ... after U set a height with da screw U must first tune ur string again, and if then da height is not to ur likingz, U haz to do da whole procedure again ... and again ...:roll:

And I once lost one of the screws. Hard to replace just the screw.
