The Heads Up Thread

Ooh ooh ooh currently going for a steal price

WOW. Holy deal. The '89 SS1 LTD. Bummer they turned the tuners straight...but that is in great shape it looks like. Replacement hardware it would seem.

I need a home in Europe and the US.

No way this should last more than 24 hours at that price. You guys across the pond need to bust out the credit card, now. These can't come up too often? Although...it would seem the 755 is just the latest bid price. Can't read German...but I imagine there is a reserve price on this?

nope, no reserve, and he won't ship outsifde Germany. Good thing for me, I'm broke anyway. :-)

Nice. Those '01 LTD Thumbs are lovely. Looks like he installed a brass JANIII too. Bonus.

I now see why you guys in Europe are used to much better deals, than people in the states. There are simply more Wicks. Damn. In the last day, if I lived there, I would have bought a JD Thumb, '89 LTD and a '01 LTD.

Just another 24 hours in the lives of the lucky who live where all the Wicks live.

Don't take this the wrong way, but....

Basstards.

:P

You know what, I'm saying this same thing for you people in the US getting far better deal on Spectors :-)

Haha...touche!

Maybe I need to start a Spector collection :D

Try buying a car over here man, that shit is bizarre.

Ahh yeah. Pros and cons, for sure. As with anything or anywhere I guess :)

I've never even been to Europe, so I definitely need to get my ass over there. I LOVE history and would have a great time exploring... And also bringing back the JD Thumb AND '89 SS1 LTD that Hardy was nice enough to purchase for me and hold in his cottage ;)

I was fortunate enough to travel a bit for sometimes, across Europe and a bit of the US. I even lived in Houston, TX for a year.
I loved every city and country I visited. Even Kassel in Germany. :-)
I'd go back to Texas in a heartbeat.

Try getting a Modulus or Rob Allen over here for a reasonable price. I cry sometimes at night reading Talkbass lol.

Nevada for me please.

Nice, thanks! A 4 string '86 is shown in your link. Did they make 5 string JD's? I don't think so. That does surprise me that there are at least 3 JD's for sale right now. Good to know it hopefully won't be impossible when I have the funds available. I think I'll be on the hunt for one in about 6-8 months.

Ahhh... I was looking at your first link. Gotcha

No "JD" truss cover = No dice! ;) Plus, this might not be a true JD...the "JD" truss covers were used up until sometime in early '87 if I'm not mistaken....when they ran out of stock and started using just "Thumb Bass" on the covers. If it's an '87...then it MUST have the JD cover, because that's all that separated them that year, if I'm not mistaken. And also, again, not sure if there were 5 string JD's.

Hmmm.... nice though! Great to know there are vintage Thumbs out there.

Yeah I've seen a few Jd 5ers, unless they were fakes.

Oh. Hmm. I've never seen a 5'er with a JD cover. That white one you linked has got to be one of the earliest Thumb 5's though.

Here is a listing from 2011 on Basschat (the guy from Promethus guitar in Italy, nice guy), where he says he's selling an '87 JD Thumb 5...but doesn't show pics of the cover. Chris, who knows his JD's, was doubting it was a JD.

I'd class any early thumb with the carved headstock a JD thumb. If you can find one, you can screw a truss plate on anything
