The Heads Up Thread

Ryan´s not really active since Mudvayne´s disbanded, now one of his Thumbs comes to sell...

Am I the only one that thinks something´s wrong with Ryan, I mean, he is one of the best players in the world, why someone with his talent would stop making music because his band broke?

You never know, Nacho. People get burned out on music. Especially after doing it at a high level. It leaves you searching for a high you once had, but can probably never achieve again. Sometimes, the only alternative is to step away completely so you don't go insane chasing something that seems just out of your grasp, but will never happen again.

I understand your point, really.

It becomes more and more business and less art until it is all totally jacksh1t pulp and no single song can move you any longer emotionally. #industry

I made a comment about Evan Brewer and everyone lost their minds, but the same applies to Ryan Martinie - when you play at such a high level with such a distinct style, you may not exactly be "the guy" people call. It may sound backwards, but sometimes people would rather deal with those who have no association than deal with people who are associated with something that isn't "them".

Speaking of which:

Maybe the fender custom shop will buy back the tye Zamora bass just to bury it somewhere?

Ryan martinie is a great player, mudvayne was a band a decade ago. 10000 seems a bit...maybe 3000. It's a shame that Ryan is best known for mudvayne and not much else, his talents and musicality should have made him a big (current) name in the bass world. There's still time...

A few years back he stepped in for Fieldy to play with Korn on tour while he was on paternity leave...would love to see him out and about more.

Yeah, that Fender bass is... something. But nobody can deny how immaculate the woodwork is. Maybe Fender put this out to show off that it can compete with any hippy-sandwich luthier... they just choose not to. The dude from Alien Ant Farm uses eBay and sells some things himself - I've seen that bass and a bolt-on model before for sale by him.

The Ryan Martinie saga is indeed something. He seems like a sweetheart in a lot of those videos... who knows? Maybe he freaks out a lot or is hard to work with or something.

I just find it funny they subbed Fieldy for a dude that plays a Thumb bass. Fieldy's tone sounds like elevator cables slamming against an empty water tower and they replace him with a dude that plays one of the most midrange heavy basses there is ;)

I had the same thought. Imagine the rest of Korn were like , whoa wtf is that noise??
Actually I would like to hear that!

Live recordings are all over Youtube as I watched a few yesterday. Just search Korn with Ryan Martinie.

That tone was always irritating to me! Especially since I had the same bass, and loved the tones it produced. What Fieldy played was a 5 string versions of the Ibanez SR1300, which is a great bass and my main squeeze for like 15 years. I was sad when they finally made a 5 string version and had his stupid logo on it.

God dammit, finally one of these pops up and it's priced stupidly.

That's Australia for you....

I just bought this Thumb 6 NT from Melbourne. Asked about the condition etc and was told it was perfect only to find that there were several defects the most concerning a repair job of the headstock wing glued back on. I'm chasing a refund but the guy is avoiding it. Paid almost $3900 and did a cash deal outside eBay which I regret. I felt was above the margin but I'm sick of looking for a bass (I'm in Melbourne) and the cost of a new one is just stupid.

There is a stage 1 4 string in aust too where the guy can't sell it for 1800. What makes this guy think people will pay 3.3k for a 6 string? Funny people blame the market for not being able to sell there basses when they expect to sell their bass at a joke of a price
