Unfortunately it looks like the bandwidth got exceeded on your pics, so I can't see them. But why couldn't you do something very simple? Such as recess the panel as previously done, then use something easy like double sided tape. It doesn't have to be rock solid, you're not taping the neck in, and it would remain removable.

Try glueing a couple small magnets on the underside of the control cover Casey.I saw this in a production model bass & it's genius.I'll try & find the sucker to show ya what I mean.
